Which Busse compares best to the Ratweiler? FSH or SFNO?

A thread over in the Swamp forum got me thinking. I really like my Camp Tramp, Ratweiler and Chopweiler.

At around 20oz and 7.5" they all make great all-round camp knives. I usually carry a folder as well and will have something bigger on hand if I have to do any serious chopping. I have a Hellrazor but it's not beefy enough to cover the light chopping duty as well as the slightly thicker Rats do.

Which Busse would you recommend for a INFI upgrade? The SFNO, FSH or even the Basic 7?

The only answer I can come up with is to get all three:) But they don't pop up too often so it'll take a while! I'd like to hear some opinions in the meantime.

Thanks for the input!
Stephen

The closest Busse to a Ratweiler is probably the SHe. The B7 is quite a bit smaller and lighter. The SFNO is also very close to the ratweiler but still smaller and lighter. The FSH and HHFSH would be slightly bigger and heavier than a Ratweiler. The HOGFSH with be quite a bit heavier.

If the HR is too light for your needs then SFNO probably would not make much difference because the size and weight difference is probably only about 15 percent. I would say go with a HHFSH if you don't mind a tad more heft and size. It is nicely balanced and is a superb chopper for its weight and size. I find it to be just as efficient as the stock CGFBM because of the balance and thinner edge geometry. And of course the SHe is also a great choice and a closest match to your Ratweiler.

Stephen, I totally agree with Ban! The HHFSH is a great knife!

As a "user" probably the best functional Busse to date but ymmv.

Besides that the HHFSH is the current Busse logo knife:thumbup:

Like Ban said, the SH-E is the closest match. I'd look for one of those. I have one, and I like it more than any other Busse family knives I've used in that size range.

A while back, On_The_Edge was nice enough to put up one of his more infrequently seen knives for a passaround. It was the closest thing to a RatWeiler I've ever seen, although I gotta admit I've never seen a SH-E live. In hindsight, I could kick myself for not getting any comparison shots with any other knives, but I didn't. Here's my pick for the most RW-esque Busse, the Custom Shop Clip-Point NO-E. Oh, and good luck finding sombody that'll let go of one! :D

My Heavy Heart is one awesome user. Compaired to the original RatWeiler the HH is heavier and a little longer. I gave my mint RW away to a buddy of mine, I miss that knife but then I just pick up my HH and all is good.

That is all I can compair it to since that is the only knife I own that is close.

This pic'll give you an SH-E and SFNO comparison.
