Hello all, I would like to try Infi steel for my outdoors, after reading the numerous post, my question seems to be simple, what model should I buy with a blade length within 4 1/2 and 5". I am really lost among all the advertisements, a lot of different names and I am unable to know the length.
I will really appreciate all the inputs in order to refine my researches.
Thanks

BATAC LE is the best you can get right now. It is available direct from Busse and you won't get it cheaper later :D

I agree that the Badger (BA) should suit you well. Go to Busse's website to see them. There are two models:

:) Combat Grade (CG) which has various blade coating options and handle color options

:D Limited Edition (LE) comes with mag Tigerhide Micarta handles and satinfinished blade. This blade will be thicker (fatty) than the CG.

I would recommend the CG for outdoor use. This should be plenty of blade for most general cutting. The price is a great deal considering the old Badger Ergo handle (BA-E) is now selling for upwards of $400. If you find one let me know and I'll take it off your hands;) .

You could also look into the two INFI offerings from Swamp Rat and Scrap Yard. You'll need to look for both of them on the Exchange Forum as they are not currently being produced. Both models sport similar narrow blade profiles that are quite different from the Badger.

The SRKW INFIcoot is SWEET. This is one of my favorites. It will run you about $250-$275 without a sheath. There were only about 200 of them made, but they come up for sale/trade once in a while. There were three available a week or so ago. For a pic click here:
http://www.swampshack.com/ and look under special releases.

The Scrap Yard Street Scrapper 4 is also INFI. This has the mudder Res-C handle, which I did not like, but you might. Didn't fit my hand well. Expect to pay about $200 for a new one on the Exchange. For a pic go to:
http://www.scrapyardknives.com/knives.htm and scroll down to the SS4.

Good luck with your search. Rest assured that no matter what you pick your picking from the top of the line. You just cannot go wrong with the Busse family.

I'm sure you meant available for sale right now since we all know they won't be shipping until...what, late April earliest?

I confirm, I received an answer from the company and the waiting time is within 10 and 14 weeks.

Badger!!! It is the ONLY one you will get from the company at this time. Any other 5" knife will have to come on the secondary market. That being said, you may like the Satin Jack TAC (SJTAC). It's about the length you want, maybe a little bit longer blade, but really nice and I've seen a few available here and there....

Thanks all for the inputs and advices, I ordered the Badger attack .

What combo did you order...I am leaning towards either black blade/tan handle, or tan blade black G-10...maybe gray blade, black canvas handles....

I took black canvas micarta handle and black coated blade, I wanted an uncoated blade, but it seems it was impossible.
I think that black coated must reveal quickly all the scratches, but I don't mind I intent to use it :D

You must be mistaken. I'm sure they told you TWO WEEKS! :D hehe.

Nice choice on the BATAC. I opted to go UG with snakeskin on mine.

Which Busse should you get? Well, All of them!! :D

Allow me splain, INFI is like crack, or so I am told. Once you get one in your paws (which will soon be metamorphosed into cloven hooves) and fondle it, and chop something, you are hooked, and hooked for life. A fascination that can only be cured by one thing, The GRiM ReaPeR.

There is no turning back once you enter the INFI zone,

You can't have just one.

the coatings are very tough. it doesnt scratch easily, you will be happy.

IMO the satin finishes show scratches quite easily. Maybe because of the "reflectiveness" of the finish. The satin or polished blade is well reserved for a "safe queen".
