Man, I'm a total post whore today (third thread started in the last fifteen minutes)...:D

Short version--going on a trip in July, need to buy me a camcorder.

Long version--I'm looking for a MiniDV camcorder and I'm having a helluva time deciding. At the moment I'm thinking Sony. Was looking at the DCR TRV 33 and also the Canon ZR65. I'm thinking something in the $800 range will be good (less is always good). I like a good zoom, but the Sony doesn't have that great a zoom (10x optical). But, the Sony has that IR deal that sounds pretty cool to me and it uses a Memory Stick that I can use in my Sony Laptop. Canon uses SD or MM card which is not compatible with neither my Sony laptop (memory stick) nor my Canon Digicam (compact flash). It'd be nice to be able to share resources. Sony is also smaller but $200 more than the Canon. Canon has better zoom and what seems to be (in a side-by-side comparison), better focusing ability...although the "spot focus" feature on the Sony is interesting. Battery time is a consideration since I don't want the thing dying on me. Good image stabilization is a must as well. It must have A/V In as well as out (don't know if that's a standard feature) via RCA and firewire.

Okay, done talking now. Feel free to suggest other cameras--my experience with MiniDVs is rather limited.

edited to add: I will drop more cash on it if it has something worth the extra cash.
