Which came first?

I just re-read an article in an old issue of Tactical Knives about the Buck/Strider folder. It stated in there that the Buck Strider was Strider Knives first foray into folders. I thought the AR/GB came first. What's the history here?

I know I had my AR LONG before the Buck/Strider collaboration came out, if that means anything.

Ryan you are somewhat a special case and no it does not count.
The first design was for the Strider/Buck. The AR/GB came from the EB series of knives.

I can say with confidence that Duane and I were discussing the idea of doing a folding DB for people who couldn't carry a fixed blade due to various regulations in law enforcement and many military units. The idea was for a blade that was as tough as a fixed blade, and was of a size that it would be a totally usable field knife-thus the GB-this was long before the Buck/Strider.

The Buck was designed first, but only by a day.

Then, as usual, I decided what I REALLY wanted, and made the GB/AR frame.

When Buck came to us for a design, we didn’t have to think very hard on which one we wanted to keep.

The Buck gained popularity before the GB/AR did. But I think we were making GB/AR’s prior to the release of the Buck.

Just to show the folder on the right that is the early version built to be like DB as Nyeti said. It does have that look due to the back of the blade.
Warmest wishes,
Oliver
