Both Vic. and Wenger say that they are the original SAK, but which one is telling the truth? Which was original first?

Only Victorinox makes that claim.

Victorinox was the first Swiss Army knife winning their contract in 1891. The company that was to become Wenger was awarded half supply with Victorinox in 1893.

Victorinox is known as "The Original Swiss Army Knife" and Wenger as "Genuine Swiss Army Knives". See the subtle difference?

Anyway, Victorinox now owns Wenger, although Wenger is still operated as a seperate company.

Yeah, I heard Victorinox just acquired Wenger last year. BTW, those new Wenger EVO models are looking pretty sweet.
It's interesting, most people don't even know there are 2 official companies, they just think they're "Swiss Army Knives".
I've always preferred Wenger's scissors lever vs Vic's thin spring, and Wenger's serrated scissors over Vic's but aside from that I prefer the designs and layout of the Vic's like the Cybertool41 I just got.
In the end I'm glad both companies exist as it gives the consumer that much more to choose from.

I think most people also call Chinese knock-offs Swiss Army Knives as well. I prefer Victorinox over Wenger so when I recommend a Swiss Army Knife I show them mine and tell them to specifically look for "Victorinox" or the "pinched" shield.

BJE is this a trick question?
Vickky=Original=Pioneering Status=The Very First Manufacturer
Wengker=Producer of Genuine Items=OEM SAK=Government Contractor

No trick questions. Just curious, I guess I didn't read the claims closely enough. So, from what I understand Vic. is the orig. and Wenger is what is issued to the swiss army (so it would be considered THE SAK) right?

No.

Both are issued to the Swiss Army in an equal 50:50 contract. Victorinox was the first, Wenger later.
