The Japanese shobu-zukri or the Persian style blade? These are wicked, deadly blade styles!

Why does there need to be a first?

Can't different cultures come to the same design independently?

I'm just curious to the origin of that blade style. I could care less about "first" and all that garbage.

Rolf, both sweet, both deadly. I think the shobu zukuri was around 14th century. The persian style, if we're talking style, could well have been seen around the time of Mr. Gengis Khan...11th or 12th century.

Thanks for the response, Bro! I need to bone-up on my history! Thanks. ;)

Well, if we want to dig into the history of blade geometries; probably China or Persia.
While actual date or country of origin is unknown, the first recorded use of curved iron points come as early as the first Greek v. Persian wars from 499 BC.

For the record, Japanese blades originally came from Korean and Chinese designs. The shobu-zukri tip most-likely came from Korea during the 4th-6th Centuries AD (during Kofun Era).

Well, this Thread took an up-turn. Tnx for the info.
Google Bradburn Knives and look at his shobu knives. ;)
