Which camping folder (between these two)

Complements a fixed-blade. Which one for camping?

I'll be bringing a few fixed-blade knives for hard-use and big stuff. Just need a folder to clip inside my pocket or put in a sheath on my belt as well.

Which if these two would you pick?

As a matter of practicality (not because it's the superior knife) I'd choose the MOD due to the blade shape and edge profile.

It'd be easier to touch up in the field due to the straighter edge (recurves requiring more precision imho) and the blade shape lends itself more to that environment.

The traditional double ground edge will serve better in the outdoors for all tasks. Like he said, easier to maintain or resharpen, etc.

I would also choose the MOD (more utilitarian blade-shape), but I would carry it in a good belt-sheath as protection against loss while camping.

how come not something with a combo edge or serrated edge, when camping i've found the serrations to be more useful then the plain edge

Another vote for the Trident. I think the Commander is a bit too specialized for camping purposes.

I'd seriosly consider another choice, like the new Grohmann #R300S D.H. Russell Folding Lockblade. But if I had to choose between the 2 the MoD would be more functional, and easier to sharpen in the field while camping, than the recurved Commander.

Actually neither for a camping folder, but seeing as this is a choice between the two, I would pick the MOD for no other reason than grind and bladeshape. For camping you would be better served with a fixed blade and if bent on a camping folder there are many. many better choices; not that there is anything wrong with either fo the knives you have selected, they just do not suit to bill for camping as well as others, IMO.

I probably should have said "which of these two knives (that I already have) should I take with me when I go camping on Memorial Day?"

I'll be taking my TTKK for meal preparation, and I'll have my Patton "Field Unit" on my gun belt, and either my Colorado Cutlery CO-1 or 4" Burke "pronghorn style" fixed blade on my person as well.

Just wanted a little folder to take along too.

Everyone says the Mini-commander is too specialized. What, specifically, is it specialized for?

Strange thing I found is that I thought recurve is supposed to cut better. Then why not use that on camp for certain things?
Besides, probably some touching up with a small steel would be enough to maintain a good edge unless you really beat the heck out of it.

The Trident performed very well this weekend. I think I'm going to remove the pocket clip and carry it in the sheath exclusively.
