I have been using militech & sentry solutions marine tuff cloth to protect my knives. Every now and then I read post about people using car wax. Does car wax work better? Which car wax works best to protect knives from rust?

I've heard of car wax being used. . .but can't for the life of me remember the specific brand.

To be honest, I think that "any" car wax will work. They are used to protect the finish on metals and paint. Not sure of the effects on exotic materials though.

I use Ren Wax on damascus/wood/exotic materials. A tin of the stuff is small. . .but goes a "long-long-long" way !

And. . .am an avid fan of Tuf Cloth for my other knives and guns ! :D

I remember the car wax articles from a few magazines, it was plain old Turtle wax. I used it for a bit on my outdoor knives, can't say it was better, or worse than anything else.

I've used this trick on carbon steel blades. Just clean with denatured alchol, and apply any paste type car wax. a light coat, at first, let dry, and buff. then several sucessive coats. "NO", it is not totally resistant to rust, especially in a salt/acid based solution. But, for general "just wet ' inviorment, it works pretty well.
