I'd go with the biggest, honkinest one made which would be the large tanto. Definitely go with the 1*LE or FD. (14?) It's got the AUS-8 steel. The Military one doesn't have a LAWKS on it...newer know when ya' may have to use that secondary lock for an extended knife fight...

Oh, and if ya' gots the cash check out the ones with Titanium handles, they're kinda purty too...even if it doesn't come with a cool patch.
The partial serrations I would have left behind if I coulda when I bought mine, but it's part of the package with the 1* series anyways, so I live with it. As far as SD goes many of the great guru's recommend a partially serrated blade. I guess it does make sense from a SD perspective, but I just bought mine as a heavy duty semi expendable workhorse.
If you happen to be short on cash (that time of the year for alot of us ya' know) I wouldn't feel slighted getting the standard version either. No matter which way ya' look at it the M-16 is one heckuva sweet package.
Oh, one last mention...I had mine reground into a slightly more "Asian" style shortly after getting it, and I love it this way. As easy to use and sharpen as a drop point, but still has the strength of the tanto.
