which coating should i do for my tactical knife

i've made several post before about this tactical knife im working on, and im getting close to finishing it, just have to heat treat it this weekend and make a sheath. but my question is, since it is a carbon steel blade and i dont want it to easily rust, should i use Birchwood Casey Gun blue finish or use 2400 Series Gun Kote, which from what i've read, sounds pretty good http://www.kgcoatings.com/products/firearm-related-products/protective-coatings/2400-series-gun-kote. i just want the blade to have a dark/non-reflective look to it

Well, cold bluing certainly won't protect it at all.
Paint is probably better, but it will wear off.
