Which cold steel recon 1 blade style to get? spear, tanto or clip? Leaning towards the clip point. Has anyone ever broke the tip from the clip point?

Tanto gets my vote, I have three (gen 1, an AUS8 'current' shape and a S35VN). Next would be spear (I have a Code 4 XHP spearpoint).

I bought tanto partially serrated recently
Didn't broke it yet, sorry.

Tanto is great for a lot of rough work, the abrupt angle that Cold Steel does is very useful for things like scraping. Plus the tanto will be hardest to break off the tip.

Personally I chose the spear point when I got mine. The belly on the blade lends itself to a wider variety of tasks in (most) people's lives I think, certainly in mine. Plus it has the added benefit that it will be slightly stronger than the clip point and you could have an easier time cutting along something from the inside without risking damage from the clip point.

For example, if I have a tightly packed package that I needed to open, I tend to flip the blade edge up and open it that way, letting the curved spine of the spear point run along the inside where it won't catch on things. The same can be said for skinning an animal (if you ever needed too) or for cutting clothing off of someone in an emergency first aid scenario.

The recon 1 is that kind of knife, in my mind.

I used to prefer the spear point. Now I think I like the clip point a bit better. The points are plenty strong on both. I ve never broken the point off a knife, even with some pretty heavy cutting.
I don t like tantos.

I like them all, but i always go back to the clip point, just does everything, and i prefer the look of it on top of everything.
