which computer program for drawing sketches?

I see a lot of nice sketches here when people discuss knife design. I tried Google sketch and decided there must be a better program out there.

What's a good program to use?

My requirements would be:

1) I'm not very artistic. The easier to use the better.

2) Needs to a format that can be converted by the waterjet cutters to use in their program (though I think they can take a basic scan and use about any program.)
3) Freeware is always good.

Thanks in advance.

Google Sketchup is a great little CAD app.. but you might also try Inkscape if you prefer the 2D plane.

Adobe Illustrator. Have a teacher or student buy it for you from journeyed.com. Or buy an older OEM version on ebay - you don't need the latest. Get one of the Quick Start Guides (it's a book)
on the version you are using.

I use the free version of sketchup and it's been easy enough to use so far. The company I use for waterjet cutting only uses older autocad file formats. The free version won't convert to that format so I have to get my wife (who works for her architect dad) to convert. It's no big deal, just something to consider.
