Which custom folder would you pick if you could have only ONE for free?!? Explain your reason why? For me, I'd close my eyes and pick one.

1. Rick Hinderer XM-18 Gen II. Flipper or non.

2. Darrel Ralph Gunhammer EDC-X

3. Yuna Knives HARD in Type S(Any blade type)

4. Scott Cook Lochsa

5. Grant & Gavin Hawk M.U.D.D.

Not the answer you're looking for, but whichever one is worth the most on the resale market. Because none of these really appeals to me.

In this order....

#1.Scott Cook Lochsa (because it's so rare & almost impossible to get)

#2.Darrel Ralph Gunhammer EDC-X

#3.Rick Hinderer XM-18 Gen II. Flipper

#4.Grant & Gavin Hawk M.U.D.D.

#5.Yuna Knives HARD in Type S

I'd get the Lochsa. The one piece handle design is just breathtaking from an engineering standpoint.

Darrel Ralph Gunhammer EDC-X with the assisted opening.

I love the look of the Gunhammer series and like the way Darrel makes the AO mechanism. Plus I've wanted one for a few years.

In second place would be the Yuna Hard series, they look as though they have a heavy duty frame lock and I like the styling.

1) XM-18, either one. This is my main EDC and I couldn't ask for a better overall folder to carry. I own the flipper Gen 2, so right now I would want a non-flipper, but it would be the other way around if I had the non-flipper.

2) Lochsa. These are just so hard to get and the idea of one piece for the frame is insane. The quality is as good as anyone can ask.

3) DDR Gunhammer. Although I've wanted one of thee for years now, my favorite model from him is the Madd Maxx. Outstanding knives overall.

4) Yuna. The handles aren't the best for me personally. I found the butt a little too wide. But the quality is as good as any other top notch maker. The steel is extravagant and time tested. You can't lose with this one.

5) The only reason the GG MUDD is at the bottom of this list is because I'm putting these in order. But don't let that fool you, this is a top notch knife overall. In fact, I could say that it ties for 4th with the Yuna. One of the things about GG knives in general is I love their overall creativity that they bring the the industry. These guys are true innovators.

I would probably go for the Gunhammer, just because I've been wanting a DDR custom for nearly 10 years. I like the design best of the ones you listed, as well. And spring for the AO. If it's the same that's on the CUDA Dominator, you can't go wrong with that. If you have the cash, play around with the inserts, and get an upgrade to damascus, or pearl.

The Hinderer comes in a close second. I would like a thinner blade stock for the XM-18, though and it would have to have the flipper.

Here's someone else you may want to look at, as I see you have similar tastes to me, I'm sure you'll enjoy.

Which custom folder would you pick if you could have only ONE for free?!? ...........

I already own a Rick Hinderer XM-18 and a Yuna Mini-Hard 3 so I'm familiar with the maker's art. That said I would pick a Scott Cook Lochsa, sell it on the Exchange, buy a Darrel Ralph Gunhammer EDC-X with Max-Glide and buy something nice for my wife with the difference.

Together for comparison (with 3" DDR Madd Maxx):

My first custom folder, when I finally do it will probably be a Yuna. In fact right now, that is a guarantee . . .

The Scott Cook Lochsa, but it will be hard to find.
A straight handle is always a plus for control and power!

I got to use an XM18 for a week and didn't like its handle drop at all for downward cuts or when cutting away from self. The drop handle is great for a stab cut, or when palming for a cut towards self, but I use neither of those cuts.

Not on the list, but google for Emmanuel Esposito and you'll have to wipe the drool off your keyboard...
