I am fairly new to knife making and while I have seen some examples of Damascus, I am unsure who makes the best examples of this material. I understand which looks best is largely a personal opinion but I would be interested in getting some ideas on which makers to check out.

Thanks for the help.

Are you wanting to buy billets for your own use? Or, are you talking about looking at examples of great damascus?

To buy, a couple people come to mind....
Alabama Damascus http://www.alabamadamascussteel.com/servlet/StoreFront
Delbert Ealy http://www.ealyknives.com/
Chad Nichols http://www.chadnicholsdamascus.com/

Bladesmith/Makers who make great damascus knives? I've seen a few in person, but am a new maker so my frame of reference is limited. Here's a couple...

Dave Lisch, Tom Ferry, Bruce Bump, A C Richards, Kevin Cashen, John White, Kyle Royer....

Also check out the exchange. We have a number of very talented makers of damascus billets, some of whom actually sell billets to makers.

My mentor, Zoe Crist makes some of the most "organic" patterns imho, and is especially well known for his feather. He'll sell billets of whatever variety you want. You can see some of the damascus he and I made on the front page of his site at www.zoecristknives.com if you scroll down, on the folders.

All the other mentions are also great.

Wow,those patterns Delbert does are cool!Prices are great too.(saved to favs)

I am looking for examples of excellent Damascus I can buy for my own usage.

To everybody else, thanx for the link. Keep them coming if you have any more!

You have a great list with del, deker, Devin and Chad. Take a look at their sites, you should find what you need.
