Which Decorated Lg Sebenza To Buy???

Well, every Sebenza I have purchased has been the large plain Jane stock model.

I have looked at the decorated ones for quite some time.

I actually have the opportunity to buy a LNIB Websight Lg Sebenza (Classic Model) right now - and it got me to wondering.

Which one???

I like the dog paws, night sky, windmill, fishing, diamond plate, and several others.

This will be a user and carried - I won't own a safe queen. So - is there a specific design / pattern that will hold up better than the others? I'm thinking the diamond plate and the websight will be good edc choices due to the limit on the colors. They are just not as sexy as some of the more colorful designs.

Are the stone inserts done well and secure? Do they become loose over time?

What say you - thoughts?

I lOve the night sky and web site. I think over time they all will show EDC wear. As far as the stone goes mine have been very secure. I wouldnt worry about that at all.

Just a thought -- my inlaid models seem to hold up to EDC use better than the graphic models. You really can't go wrong with any of the models you mentioned, though -- it comes down to personal taste.

One consideration is that the anodizing process that gives you color in the graphics deposits a thin oxide layer that is susceptible to wear. As such, for an EDC, graphics that are made up of relatively deep/thin cuts are less vulnerable to rubbing/abrasion in those "valleys" and keep their color longer. For example, a graphic like "Acoustic", which is largely made up of skinny deep lines, will do quite well under EDC conditions.

This is in contrast to "NightSky", with its large, "rubbable" annodized surfaces that make up the hillsides.

I think you have convinced me that the decorated ones probably won't make great users - I may end up just getting one with inlays.

That night sky is a beautiful piece - it would make me very sad to see that one beat up as an edc.

I have seen that the better-looking, decorated Seb's tend to get put back and not used. I have a few myself. Still, I think that if you pick a design that is personally meaningful, it should be carried and used. Scuffs, scratches, and sharpenings put character into the knife, I think, and tell the story of you when other people see it. Imagine that knife 25 or 50 years from now!

I'm carrying and using this one now because is highly meaningful to me, and came from a good friend. Scratches are just part of the journey....

Yea I would think that the decorated ones, especially the ones with a lot of
anodizing coloring, would be susceptible to wear and not look as sharp over
time. Look at the anodizing on the blue thumbstuds. They wear fairly easy.
I would recommend the micarta inlays. IMO its the perfect edc sebenza.

I've been EDCing a large graphic since 1996 (in fact, I'm in Kyoto at the moment, and it's in my pocket). At the time of this photo, it had been carried for over a decade, and recently had its blade replaced.

Yeah, it has scratches (can't see 'em in the photo) and the color isn't as vivid, but it still turns heads and is a pleasure to carry.

That's why I bought the diamond plate. It has been in my waistband since I bought it and I just love it. There is no colored anodizing to fade and it's diamond plate, it will look better and better with wear.
