I'm trying to decide among DMT, Ultimate Edge, Hewlett or anything else of good quality. I'd like something around the DMT fine/600 grit/25 micron; but Hewlett has a 3 stage Jewelstik with coarse, medium, fine which would also be fine if it's a good product and I could get a micron equivalent of those grits.

It probably doesn't get any better than DMT, and they have perfectly reasonable prices, IMO.

I got mine from sears, seems to be a 600 grit coating over a solid steel rod (quite heavy). Handle is their clear and red screwdriver type handle, and carries their forever guarantee. I figured since diamond hones "do" eventually wear out (I've seen one dmt coarse stone on display at a local sporting goods store worn to the point where it was totally devoid of cutting diamonds) that I'll be covered, in any event, it's only 20 dollars from Sears so I won't be out too many bucks if they dont. Just to clarify though, I doubt I'll be wearing it out anytime in the next 10 years, I'm not using it to rough hone anything, and I haven't worn any of my diamond stones out yet, some of which are over 10 years old.
