So I haven't made my way into Cold Steel knives yet but I think I will soon. I want to know which of these knives you guys would recommend given the options.
Recon Tanto (San Mai III) vs. Warcraft Tanto (3V) (Medium Version)
Recon 1 Tanto XL Folder vs. ZT 0620 CF

I appreciate the suggestions everybody and I look forward to trying some Cold Steel blades soon!

The RT is better at slicing/delicate work (hollow ground), and the WT is better suited for chopping/hard use (flat saber ground)

I'd go with Recon 1 XL any day (in CTS-XHP) but I like both Cold Steel, and big folders.

Thanks Dave! Yea the sheer size of the Recon 1 XL is really what draws me to it. I don't have any folders quite that large and it is very enticing. Do you think the San Mai III of the Recon Tanto is worth getting excited over the 3V in the Warcraft Tanto? Some say yes and others just think the SMIII is overrated. Thanks again:thumbup:

Personally, I would go with the Recon Tanto. Lighter, more versatile, better edge geometry. The Warcraft Tanto's spine extends past the scales and just plain uncomfortable. The edge grind on the WT is thick and will get thicker with sharpening. The thinner edge on RT has more sharpening life, with it's high hollow grind.

If plan to chop and baton, get the Warcraft Tanto. If you will be cutting and slicing, get the Recon Tanto.

As far as VG-1 San Mai III goes: I have a Trail Master that I accidentally banged the edge on a metal drawer pull. It actually cut into drawer pull, but the edge showed no damage when I inspected it with a jewelers loupe.

I also carried a Pendleton Hunter in VG-1 and performed great, held its edge and never chipped

Excellent, that is what I was hoping to hear! At the least, many have said that the San Mai III makes for a beautiful blade as far as a polish is concerned. I am happy to hear that the performance is up to par as well. Sounds like the Recon Tanto in San Mai III and the Recon 1 XL are the ones I am going to go with! Though I may have to still get the ZT 0620CF as well...I am quite the ZT nut.

yeah i picked one of the green ones up really nice blade. got a xl recon clip point tonight on the auction sight for 51 bucks shipped. bwahaha. its the old aus8 version i'm going to give it to my daughter.

Recon 1 XL tanto is a beast, but easy to carry

Smooth, sharp as a scalpel, my favorite one in its weight (vs. Talwar, heavier than Voyager which I like but not as heavy as Espadas and Rajahs) range.

A true rebirth of their classical tantos, worth the title.

G10 is very agressive, though, but you can just sand it down.

Can't go wrong with it!

Recon one xl is long open or closed, but it's ''flat'' in pocket and very light weight for the size.
