Which do you like better? Older or newer BK2 style

I have two of the older style BK2. I picked one up for 30.00 at a pawn shop yesterday and thought this one would allow me to make mods on in the future. It came without a sheath. I have heard that the sheaths dull the blade so I will have to make one for the knife anyway. I would imagine that the older ones will be harder to find on down the road. The newer version is somewhat different and was wondering if this change was more desired or not. The older version is one solid overbuild chunk of steel that can take the abuse to the outer limits of knife use. Regards

Afaik difference is extended pommel, very handy when used to drive blade through wood.
Correct me if wrong but the grinds are different too, flat grind vs kabar sabre grind.

IIRC the Campanion has always been sabre ground. Nice purchase, I'd love to find a BK-2, gen 1 or gen 2 here for taht price!

Kabar version for me. Mostly cause it seems they got everything figured out, and I like the stock sheath.

I like the gen 1 BK-2 with the hidden pommel. Just looks cleaner to me and I have both.

I would prefer for the Kabar to be just a tad thinner

that's called a BK10...

the KaBar model is as thick as the original early/BlackJack models. Camillus went thinner for a while. even then, afaik, nobody managed to break too many :) Now it's back to being beefy.

silly thing is, there are people who request thicker models. can't please everyone... and the only one needing pleasing is Ethan ;>

The only thing I don't like about the Gen 2 is that I can't move to the pinch grip as comfortably when I try to get more forward weight for chopping. The extended pommel causes some pain when using that grip for chopping.

I was initially pissy faced that the knife was changed just before I got one. So I decided to go Neanderthal and pry stumps apart etc. to break it and prove a point..............it did not break. I love the gen 2 now, particularly with micarta grips.

Thanks for the answers. The question had been between generation 1 and 2 Kabar BK2 with the extended pommel and cut out handle.

I like the newer version. I have an older Blackjack one and a new Kabar one.

I like the Ka-Bar version, though the Camillus floats my boat too. The Camillus is a thinner animal.

Between the two KaBar ones I've had,(gen 1 & gen 2) I like the cutouts under the handle of the gen 2 for more forward weight and the non extended pommel of the gen 1.
