I find myself really liking it when I find a great on an older knife, especially a nice model that has been discontinued.
Getting new knives is fun, but getting the latest steel has gotten old, but to this day, I still get a kick out of buying a nice, new to me, knife.

I think I don't care. I tend to like more modern/newer stuff if I had to state a preference, but it's more about the knife itself rather than the price. If an older knife just has a great price but I am not sold on the design I will give it a pass and if a great new knife is too expensive it will get a pass too. Do I look for bargains on older knives I like? Sure. But most of the bargains here in Europe are bargains because they aren't popular models to begin with.

I like finding a deal on an older knife or a used newer style knife. I enjoy buying gently used knives to use them even more. Something about brand new keeps me from using them as much.

To quote whoever said it (I think about TV);

“If I haven’t seen it then it’s new to me!”

Good deals are fun but for me it is all about the knife.
If it is something that makes my pinball machine go BING !
Good handle shape, alloys that I like, perfect blade shape.
THAT
is what I LIKE MOST.
If it is old, if it is the latest offering, if I just paid a bit "too much" (but it is available when I want it) (the opposite of GEC) . . . heck . . . I don't care. All that is secondary.

It is all about the over all package (design & specifications) and if it plugs into my idea of a great knife.

I don’t really care anymore. I have found what I like now, and have gotten rid of all the fancy new steels I use to have. I like simple designs and simple steels. S35VN and M4 are my two favorites. They are easy to sharpen and keep a edge for a good time. I don’t need the latest and greatest, or have the time to sharpen some of these insanely hard new steels. Keep it simple stupid.

:) I usually wait until a knife I want is disco'd , on clearance or some other kind of great deal . Used is OK if price and condition is good . :cool::thumbsup:

I think it goes without saying that nice older knives are what I like. Today, I got a deal on Kershaw Launch 5 because it is discontinued. I have had issues with Kershaw Launches, especially the Launch 2, other Kershaws have been nice. Since August 2017, when it became legal to own autos in Illinois if you have a FOID Card (firearm owners ID) I have mainly bought them I guess to make up for all the years I couldn’t. Autos, for some reason are mainly 154cm or cmp154, so I haven’t been worrying about blade steel so much. For someone my age, I remember when 154cm or ATS-34 were considered super steels.

I buy what grabs me in some way.
Too often the latest greatest wonder knife is either too pricey, or downright fugly, and quite often, both.
An older knife at a great price often means the newer version is better either in the steel or design corrections.
