So I am having a dilemma. I know most people including myself hand sand bevels but I have been really liking the "fresh" grind lines look. Do any of you leave your knives bevel with grind lines still on it instead of evening it perfectly flat?

Yes I have, and if done correctly, it can be very flat and look nice. I would recommend doing it only with stainless because the rougher finish allows it to rust easier.
I really like it on folders, but a fixed blade with a more modern style will look very nice with a clean machine finish.

I like it on a full flat grind fixed blade. I’ll go up to a 400 grit Gator belt then a fine Scotch Brite.

I finished up to a 600 grit conditioning belt before heat treat. I then used the surface conditioning belts to clean up the blade. The grind looks good but its a bit shiny not as good as I would like. I may just use the grinder at 400 grit again, then hit it with a surface conditioning belt and see what happens.

I do a Trizacts A45 (400 grit) finish. Clean and functional for hard use knives.

Same here with one addition. After the gator belt I hit it with a 400 grit cork belt with grey compound. For me it evens out the color a little more. Then the Scotch Brite for an even scratch pattern.

It looks great. Then again it looks so good it looks machine finished. Something about that hand rubbed finish ....

I’ve been wanting to try out a cork belt, maybe I’ll add one to my next order.

cork belts leave a nice finish. best part is they can last a long time. i have had one for over 3 years and used it on every knife. i like a machine finish on heavy use blades.

A fine collectible blade should have a high grit scratch finish or mirror polish.

For a user pick what you like and go with it. I vary from a 220 to 400 belt finish on most users.

I like a satin finish, so I will go up to 800 grit cork with green polish and then go back down to 400 grit to 600 scratch finish when I feel like it.

It drives me crazy to have a blade finished and then at the last second you find a hair line scratch somewhere on the blade, makes me envious of those who can have finish with a bunch of scratches and it really does not matter LOL

Funny, that's what I've been saying ("maybe") for years, after hearing people like john april john april and AVigil AVigil . Six months ago I did exactly that. "Gee I think I'll add a cork belt to my next order." Now I'm wondering why I waited so long.
