i have a question and welcome ANY comments..
which mastersmith would be a good choice for a small carry knife for daily cutting or chopping..?
i have identified 3 that make them in a 3 3/4" to 4 1/2" blade, forge their own blades and are reasonably attainable..there may be others..THANKS IN ADVANCE!
1. Jerry Fisk
2. Mike Williams
3. Joe Flournoy

Tough subject ! And even harder to whittle such a large accumulation of Masters to only 3. So. . .here's what I think:

Fisk

Fitch (I don't think that he's made his MS yet)

JR Cook

And not necessarily in the above order ! :)

Fisk - really tough to find one any better

Flournoy - love his style and is your man if you are looking for a Fighter flavored blade.

Fitch - forget the fact that he is not yet a M.S. I dare you to find something negative in print about his knives. Cutting champion ring a bell?

Primos - again, not a M.S., but who cares? I have one of Terry's drop point hunters and it defines cool in my book. Cuts like hell too. A little light for any real chopping. It will do it, just needs a little more oomph! Bargain priced as well for what you are getting.

Could not miss from any of those guys as far as I am concerned.
(glad you guys are around - you're good!).

I have knives on order from Jerry Fisk, Al Pendray and when he starts taking orders again next spring I will be ordering one from Ed Caffrey.

Last I heard Jerry was not taking orders. He had a delivery time of over two years and wanted to get caught up. Al's prices are very reasonable and he has a waiting period of about a year and a half. Ed is being deployed in September so he wants to get all of his current orders completed before he is gone for six months.

Big John Fisk will be a MS next year, mark my words. This guy makes fantastic knives. I also have one on order from him.

All of the knives that I have on order have blades between 3 1/2" and 4 1/2". This is the length of blade that I prefer.

Others that I am contemplating ordering from are; Roger Massey, Audra Draper, Shane Taylor and Daniel Winkler.

Of course, if you are willing to wait longer and spend more I will always recommend Ed Fowler.

By the way Jerry, did you ever get that Al Pendray wootz folder, and if so where are the pictures?
