I know everyone will have a opinion about Benchmade but here's my question. I'm looking for a EDC that will mostly be used for stuff around the house and occasionally to clean a fish or skin a squirrel or deer. I haven't got a lot of expendable income but want a good quality knife: folder, drop point, and available for <140.00. I like the looks and specs of the Mini Boost, Bugout and Griptillion. I am elderly and have always used buck or case in the past. any recommendations/opinions are appreciated.

Although game-cleaning isn't on my list of tasks, my two Benchmade EDCs are the Griptilian and the Bugout.

The chunky, contoured handle of the Grip is lovely for getting a comfy, well, grip, on it, and the blade shape is useful for a lot of different tasks. The Bugout is a much better slicer (it's one of my sliciest modern folders) and the weight makes it just vanish in the pocket; it's also quite comfy in hands. Both are good all-rounders in my experience.

If I'm carrying one of these, my decision tree starts with shorts (Bugout) vs. pants (Grip) and then whether or not I think I'll need to do any fine cutting (Bugout) or not (Grip).

Of the knives you mentioned the Griptilian is a pretty versatile blade ... and I like that you can customize the options you want ... I believe maybe you can on the Crooked River also ... but I'm not positive.

But you can buy a nice Mora fixed blade fillet knife with good stainless steel for much less ... I'd avoid the fish gutting with a folder ...

Almost exactly what he said but for me the shorts one is a 940-2 with G10 grips from REI. I want a Bugout though. I've tried other knives such as spyderco and simply prefer the axis lock to others.

I posted the same in General, but here it goes anyway. For the chores you are talking about and being arround the house (where you don't have to comply with any law but your own), I would go the fixed blade route. I know you are asking about a folder but I don't think you will be too happy after you try.

Folders are usually not recommended for sanitary reasons to process game. Crap gets into the mechanisms and besides ruining the action of the knife, it could provide the perfect soil for bacteria to grow. Cleaning them well is tricky. Fixed blade knife solves all these problems. If you have mentioned chopping some veggies... I would say a folder could be used, but for blood, hair, guts and fish scales... fixed is the way to go.

do yourself a favor and look at the northfork, it kicked my mini grip out of my pocket and for a good reason too. which actually is funny because the grip displaced my bugout

I got a Mini Freek a couple of months ago. It is my favorite folding knife. Given deer hunting duty, consider the Grizzly Ridge.
