which edge??

Hello all, long time spyderco owner, first time poster. I just found this page after I read about it on ETS. Anyway, I know I have posted this on other sites, so please bear with me. I want to switch from my Rescue (fully serrated) to an Endura for my EDC knife. My question is, which edge should I buy? I like the spyder-edge, but I rarely use it to its fullest ability. So should I go with the combo, or just get a plain edge?

I am just looking for opinions about the utility of the combo edge. This knife will be backed up my a Victorinox Swisstool RS for my EDC gear.

Thanks,

Garrett

IMO, The Endura is a tad too small for a CE to be useful. Either get a PE and carry it with your Rescue if you need a SE or just get a SE Endura.

I would go with a PE,I find a PE to be more useful. If you want a CE the Military seems to work well with that blade.

I have looked at the military and I wonder about the differences between that and the endura. I know the military has a liner lock, and I am guessing the blade is a little thinner, but what are the other difference? I am not up to speed on steel types and compostions, so whats the difference?

Military has a very heavy duty cutting blade with more belly to it,very good steel 440V or S30V,G10 scales with a nested liner. It has an open spine for ease of cleaning. With its ecentric pivot the liner lock can be ajusted for wear. All in all I belive it to be the best production folder out there.

The Military is a great knife...my all-time favorite actually. It is nicer than an Endura and is worth the extra money.

I like plain edges best. Fully serrated edges are ok if you don't like to sharpen you knife very often or cut a lot of fiberous materials. I don't really see the point of combo edges. I would just go plain edge if I were you.

Also note that the Millie has a full flat ground blade, while the Endura has a saber ground, either hollow (older models) or flat.
The Millie has a better steel, CPM 440V or the new S30V, while the Endura has "only" VG-10 (or ATS-55 at some older models. I don't think you'll find pre 98 Enduras, those used to have AUS-6 blades).
Now speaking of the edge, plain edge is easier to sharpen. Serrations are good for rope, wood, cardboard, stuff like this. I wouldn't go for a combo edge, I'd better pick a PE knife and another one serrated.
