Which EK is the fastest to wave out of pocket?

I own quite a few Emersons and, frankly, I've found some of them are easier to "WAVE" out of the pocket much more reliably, and reliably with different pants and grabs and pulls than others.

They all seem to behave slightly differently.

By far, from my experience, the Karambit seems to be the fastest and most reliable to come completely open and to open EVERY time no matter what grab or speed or whatever. (It's now my carry knife on the bus and at night in Washington DC.)

Second fastest would be the CQC-10 which has no thumb disc, and which, to my eyes, seems to be, currently, the toughest of the Emerson production knives, which is good.

The rest, from my experience, require more practise and more of a certain technique to get them to wave totally reliably.

Has anyone else noticed that some Emersons draw and wave open better, faster and more reliably than others?

.

I also have several Emersons including the CQC10 and I agree, some WAVE better than others but the CQC10 is by far the easiest.

I think its probably more about how easy the blade is to grab from the pocket.
The wave is the wave so with all other things equal it shouldnt make much if any difference.
The K,bits and the 8 do seem to be the up there as the fastest for me, I always use the hole on the 10 so I will need to try that one :p

My Spyderco Endura Wave actually waves the easiest and most reliably, but my Commander is pretty close.

It really depends on what kind of pockets and material your pants have.

Jeans like this are the best.

The blade shape of the Karambit probably helps a lot as well. The blade curves away from the opening of the wave providing somewhat of a funnel effect where a more traditional blade does not have that becasue the top of the blade is more or less in line with the opening of the wave.

What He ^ said is right on. The best wave is achieved with a larger hook. The Spyderco wave is much better and also makes a great church key. I consider myself an expert on waved knives. I have done many conversions on Spydercos and BMs over the last 3 years. I still however carry a waved Emerson every day. I love the ugly stealth bomber look of his tanto models.

My 7s seem to be the fastest for me. So far I only have a few Emersons, but the 7 works the best most of the time.

I have a 15 and 13. I don't notice a difference. I need to get more Emersons so that I can test further.

I agree with the Karambit being the fastest Emerson Wave to deploy.. Especially in a reverse wave.. Reverse wave is so much faster than the traditional foward wave. Using the tradional wave you have to pull back and than come forward, with the reverse wave you deploy forward as you are bringing the knife up into a fighting position at the same time.. This does away with the wasted movement of pulling the knife "back and out".. I have carried and trained with waved knifes for a few years now and waved models are ALL I carry as a SD blade. But I must say the Spyderco Delica Wave is the Fastest, Easiest to deploy, and most reliable Waved model in production IMHO.. The Delica's only fault is it's reach disadvantage, but a skilled and fast knife fighter will make up for the reach disadvantage...

As for the Endura, it is good as well and has outstanding reach and length, BUT, it's blade to handle weight ratio is off.. This can cause a "bounce back", if you deploy it to hard, it can cause the blade to bounce at the tang and doesn't engage the lock and your left with a partially opened knife in your hand and your enemie's knife up your ass.... You just have to practice more with the endura to get the right amount of deployment force so that a bounce back doesn't occur...

I do currently EDC a CQC-10 and love it, so I agree with the CQC-10 guys as well, but I always have one of my Delica Waves on me...
