I saw a couple Emersons at the shop tonight and got the bug to get one. Problem is which one?? I currently carry a Benchmade Griptillian without a problem so something that size seems right. CQC-15 looks interesting.

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

HCS,

If the 15 stood out at you, and fits what you're looking for, I say go for it. I have the 14, which I like because I can bring it anywhere (really short blade - legal in the states that I frequent, which is very important to me) but it's still just as strong as the other Emersons.

Also, if you got to see it at the shop, you're all set since you already know that the ergo's work for you. Hope you enjoy.

Yup, as gcgcgcgcgc said if its the 15 that grabs you got for that one
Id also have a look at the 7s, there the knives Emerson is famed for and with good reason.
There is not much to go wrong really, the materials are all the same its just down to what knife you like the best at the end of the day :)

'15s are ok, my fav EKI is a '12, w/the framelock, #2 would be a '13 or a SOCFK.

I like the grind on the 15. I currently carry 10 almost every day. When I try to change it up, it finds its way back into my pocket.

The CQC-15 is definetly a nice blade for the style and if you like tanto points its a plus.

I couldn't really give a firm awnser to which Emerson you should choose since I own 10 models but I'd say go and handle every model and see which one you like, the look, feel, usage and ect ect will probly be decided then.

My personal favs are the CQC-12 Comrade ti combo, Super Karambit and the Commander/ Super Commander and I generally carry one of them for my EDC.

My current favorite is the HD-7, but it's a close contest with my CQC-12. Of course I also love my Persian.

The persians seems to be back instock at most places, i might just need to pick up another one :D

Its a shame the same cant be said for the HDs they seem to be getting rarer by the day. :(

On the pluss side, the 16 and horseman are now available

Id say the 15 is a tanto point recurve.

The word "Tanto" describes a blade shape rather than a grind style. Emerson 7s are a tanto blade. Its commonly described as an "Americanised" Tanto (two straight edges meeting to form the sendary "point")

There is more to it than that but for simplicity that about sums it up.

I took a close look at the 15 and it's a nice knife, it has a recurve blade with a tanto-like tip. Kinda different. Overall the knife is a bit large, so I think I am going to go with the Commander - and the La Griffe!

Thanks for all the help!!

Just got my first Emerson, a new CQC-12. Woo hoo this thing is nice - SHARP TOO! I went with the black blade, no serrations. It's a big knife but seems to fit my pocket OK. Getting used to the wave feature will take a bit of time though.

The handle material is nice but sticks to my pocket quite a bit. Does this smooth out some with time?

Shout out to Ernest - Dude! Great knife! Minor gripe: the clip should have EMERSON (or something) engraved on it. I will order one of the engraved ones from your shop, but it would be nice to have something a little more fancy than a blank clip. Thanks!!!

Thanks y'all!

for me my favorites are the commanders and i have only one Emerson and its my Mini Commander, and it waves like a dream in the back pocket of the 5.11 tactical shorts that i just bought.

The CQC-6 was my first Emerson and got me hooked right off pretty much. These days I'm much more of a CQC-8 fan though, followed closely by the Commander.

Congrats to your purchase. As for the wave, I've found a really simple technique. It's not about how fast you can pull the knife out of your pocket. As you're pulling out the knife, just give it an additional flick towards the direction of where the wave is facing. That should snap the knife open.

The G10 handle is really sticky. That's why I've not used the pocket clip when I carry my knife. My knife is quite new so I can't say if the handle will smoothen out. I wish it won't though, because it'll affect my grip on the knife.
