Which Emerson should I buy?

Hey guys I want to buy an Emerson folder, but I'm not sure which one to go with. I really like the CQC-12, but I really don't want to spend $400 right now. I want a nice user. Anybody have good experience with these, and if so which one do you prefer?

For your first one I would say either the 10,8 or 7. Or the Journeyman. Maybe the 15.
It's hard to pick just one. I would pick a blade shape you like and they choose the size. Be aware the Mini versions are more the size of your average folder.

Head over to the Emerson sub forum and look around. It's a very chill place.

First emerson? Get the 7.

It's a classic.

If you don't like the chisel grind, get the 7v. It is at least ground on both sides. Great knives, little pricy. Try and get one on the secondary market.

The only Emerson I own is the Horseman and I will tell you it is a phenominal knife and one of my favorites.

I personally carry a CQC-14 and it has served me very well. You can't go wrong with any Emerson, but if you plan on using it I would go with something with the "A" designation (spearpoint).

I have a CQC7 that I use for work, its more ergonomic than it looks. I really like my CQC7 I use it and abuse it at work and its great for that. CQC7's aren't expensive I think I bought mine new for about $130, decide if you like the chisel grind before you dive in. I don't know if I would spend more than that on an Emerson but that's just me. I always look at them and then wind up buying something else like a ZT or a Spyderco.

Thanks guys. I think I will probably be between the cqc7, cqc13, and the journeyman. But I'm not sure I'm going to be buying one very soon now, I just won a Bradley alias 1 in an auction I didn't think I would 😁. But who knows I may still pull the trigger. Appreciate all of your knowledge though. Does anyone know if Emerson makes a mini cqc13?

Unfortunately there is no mini CQC-13. That would be a interesting setup though.

I have a user CQC-10....and two spare CQC-10's that live in my gun safe. Those are the only three knives I own so I guess my vote is fairly easy to guess.

I love the look and size and have been oggl'ing this knife for awhile. I'm pretty sure I'm going to cave at some point and get it myself.

It's a great knife. I have 2 other Emerson knives and this one is my favorite.
The size is perfect and the fit and finish is excellent. I also like the combo, satin finish / stonewashed blade.

The only thing holding me back is the price of Emerson knives in general. I mean, most aren't crazily extravagant in price for what you get. But they are just outside of my own personal comfortable-enough-to-carry-and-use-and-possibly-scratch-up-without-a-second-thought range. I'm afraid any Emerson knife would end up becoming my gateway knife into becoming a collector. If I were just a bit better off financially, I'd be all over them though. :)

Ya the price of them does put a damper on things, but I don't mind spending that much money on a user, it's just that there are a lot of knives that are made with higher end materials that I can get in that same price range and even cheaper. But they are awesome looking knives, and seem like they can take a beating.

Funny you should mention "gateway". It might have been for me... :)

My first expensive knife was an Emerson... it was a Blackbird , which they don't make anymore, but it's similar to the CQC7. Up to that point I had never spent $100 for a pocket knife.

The Horseman cost about $140 two years ago, but the prices are still holding in that range.

The only advice I can give, is that most non- knife hoarding users who own Emerson knives rave about them ( and the customer service too). So one one hand , it's possible that buying one might be a gateway. But on the other hand, if your not nuts like me , it could be the only knife you need.
One of the reasons I bought mine was after reading reviews by actual users. I had read a review by a firefighter who dropped one off a building and later on picked it up unscathed in the street.
