which Emerson

We can tell you which one if you tell us why. What do you want it for, what do you like in a knife? The handles are alike and the size of the blades, but the CQC-8 is has the more common blade shape. The broad recurve on the Commander may not be as flexible in the range of tasks it performs well.

sorry:foot: , EDC but I use my folders hard for everything from cuting food to some light prying, outdoor work, hiking,SD, and any other thing that comes my way.

For the listed tasks, I'd probably go with the 8. Reason being the cutting your food. You could cut a sandwich much easier with a more conventionally shaped blade.

I should have said of the two LISTED I'd take the 8. If I had my pick of all the EKI line, I'd probably go with the CQC10. Comfy handle, good thick blade, and still has a lot of straight edge for utility tasks. Probably more acceptable amongst the people than the EKI I happen to carry which is the 7B.

ive got an 8 and love it . as for the commander , i m not really sure . never had one . the 8 is going to be alot easier to sharpen due to its more conventional blade shape. its plenty sturdy too.

For SD a commander is one of the best out there. Especially waved.

A recurve is a very efficient cutting tool. That is on my short list

i dont know that the commander would be any better for SD than a "8 or '7 or SOCFK or? all EKIs are really made with SD the primary intended use for all there knives, also the '8 is very well known in SD circles,

of the commander/'8 i would take the '8 i just like it better nothing wrong with the commnder though, of all the EKIs i like the commander the least go figure, i like the '8, '7, SOCFK, '12,'13,'6, P-Tac, all better than the commander. strictly aesthetics though like i said nothing wrong with it.

8, for all the reasons listed above, especially ease of sharpening.
I'll second the recommendation that you consider a 10. That's the one I picked, since it's the most versatile (in my opinion). It's a great general utility shape, has superb handle ergonomics, and (although I don't carry it as such... insert the "my knives are tools, not weapons" speech here...) is just as effective when it comes to SD.
I also like the commander the least out of all the EKIs I've handled. The 10 is my favorite (obviously), then comes the 7a (it's a classic), and then the 8. Notice that all three of these have blades that are great for utility (and food prep :D ), are not tantos, and are not recurved (I have one recurved blade, a BM 710, but I don't like the extreme recurve of the Commander - it's too much).
Good luck.
Peace.
Alex.
