I think this might be a peeling double bit. Or a reversible. Both look pretty similar. Do I have this upside down?

Which eye goes in first? smaller or larger.

Thanks.

i think that in the top photo, you have it upside down...
sure does look like it to me. just my opinion though...

I agree with Bearhunter and Outdoor. I'll see how it works out and post and update. thanks all

So something inside the axe is pushing the axe off kilter. It's not straight when I sight down the handle. The handle is straight. Will wedging straighten. Or do I have to fix before?

Edit: not sure that this picture shows it.

not straight as when you look into the eye as pictured above, or not straight as in the bit doesnt line up with the handle, or a combination of both?

Here if I am seeing that correctly the head does look slightly cockeyed in relation to the handle. So now is it the head, or the handle?

Does the head have any beat marks on the outside of the middle of it? Sometimes old timers, when the head would get loose, instead of taking the time to fix the problem, would beat down on the axe head to make the eye thinner overall. This of course when you do manage to get the handle out can produce all kinds of issues when it comes to re-hanging.

Well you can either try and compensate by working the handle over first, Or, sometimes, when you do the wedge properly, it will bring it back. Have to make sure your wedge is long while then also thick enough to fully expand the handle out in the eye to its max to try and bring it back in line. This however, might not work, and then you might have to drill the wedge out and start again.

Any burrs on the inside of bottom eye? File it nice and smooth, and round any sharp edges that might dig into the wood too much.

Wedging it helped (a bit). It's still off-kilter but this one is going to be a bit of a wall hanger/leaner. I like it and am happy with it. Overall it was an easy hang.

Came out pretty good by the looks of it. I think you should use it atleast once just to get a feel for what it can do. Nice job!
