Would an Izula II be a good partner for my 5 to handle the smaller chores? Or maybe a 3? Thanks in advance guys.

My buddy has a izula, I like it a lot! Im getting one when I have the money. I think many others would agree with the izula.

I will give a big thumbs up to the Izula 2. I have been edcing it for the past few days. Very comfy and light wieght!

With the 5 already, I don't see you needing anything larger than an Izula. And once you have an Izula, it will go everywhere with you. But as all of us that started buying ESEE's, you'll probably get the Izula, Izula II, and the 3 sooner or later. I have three Izula's, two 3's, and an ESEE HEST. Lack of funds is the only think stopping me from having more of them.

ill be the lone dissenter here and say that you NEED a 3, just an all around great blade. maybe you might want to go out and do a little bushcraft that requires a larger blade than the izula but you dont want to carry the 5 so then youd grab the 3 and be all set. personally i think the 3 is my favorite knife in the lineup at this point, the 3 is just a slicing machine and the handle is just great. unless your going to do some heavy heavy batoning or chopping the 3 can handle any chores you throw at it.

the reason the izula gets alot of play on the forum (aside from it being a great knife) is that its very EDCable even in urban areas so if that is important to you then the izula us a sure thing. the izula 2 is a win in my book because the micarta handles are way grippier and a little longer, if you want to chord wrap then i guess go with the 1.

get both ;)

I have a 2 cord wrapped. ;)

To the OP: Although I love the 2, my favorite knife, I'm not sure you'd need it with the 5. Not sure what fine tasks you need to do that a knife the size of the 5 can't do.
All that said I'd pick the Izula 2 over the 5 any day. ;)

The Izula or Izula II would be great paired with your 5 . I have 2 Izula's and carry one of them as my EDC . Great knife .

HOLD MY BEER AND WATCH THIS !

Thanks guys. I love my 5, that being said I want something that I can EDC and not draw too much attention. I live in Philly and always carry my Glock off duty but want a knife that's a bit more inconspicuous than the 5. I'll probably end up getting a 3 very soon but I think my next purchase will be an Izzy II. I've been shying away from folders lately. I love the simplicity of a fixed blade, no malfunctions no moving parts to worry about. I think the izula will be a good replacement for my DMF Auto (Which I'll still probably have in my uniform pocket since I feel naked without a folder clipped to the inside.) I appreciate the feedback folks. Have a great New Year.

I've paired my 5 with an Izula several times in the past, and it has worked great for me. I'd imagine any of the smaller ESEEs would work well for the job.

I don't have the 5, but I do have the 6, 4, 3, and Izula II. The Izula is a nice little knife, but the 3 is just as easy to carry, no more difficult to conceal, a much better slicer with a longer blade, and much more ergonomic. It also comes with a much better sheath. Basically, it's way more knife without, as far as I can tell, any drawbacks--unless legal restrictions apply.

Well I think for budgets sake I'll pick up the Izula for now. I'm sure I'll have the entire lineup someday hehe. Is the Izula up to par on quality with the rest of RAT's blades?

when I got my izula2, I sold my esee3 -- I found the izzy 2 to be more comfortable in hand due to being slightly thicker.
here's a comparison pic of the ESEE4 and izzy 2, note similar length of handle, what you're really losing is the choil and 1/2" of blade between it and the 3, 1.5" vs the 4:
