I am looking for an etcher. I planned on a Claiborne etcher but had a few mix up's with maker so I am still looking. I DO NOT want to make one. Anyone use the Personalizer PLUS?? Thinking about that one.

I use the plain ole Personalizer, I think it cost $100 at the time.. I've used it for years, and it ticks right along.

I Am Also Looking At The Personalizer Plus-it Looks Like The Best Choice So Far

Personalizer Plus cut the mark on etch, then flip the switch to mark to redeposit the black oxide. Mine has been running for a tremendous amount of marks for about 8 years -no problems. If you want to see how it cuts flip over to folders for sale

Looks like a nice etch, thanks.

got your email but will post here instead

i have the Personalizer Plus and get my stencils from IMG
things to remember i tape the stencil to the blade then mark (keeps from moving the stencil around ) i etch 4-5 times for short 3 sec bursts then mark once or twice for the same amount of time

when i take the stencil off i clean the blade with accatone and then windex then wash the whole works in soap and water

Thanks Butch. Do you put the power full blast, half, ????. Do you purchase the solution or make your own. Thanks again.

I just completed the build on the Chris Crawford home built etcher from the link I posted above. It was a piece of cake and it works like a champ. 1 hour trip to radio shack and about a 2 hour build and I have a fine etcher. For right at $65 and a little of my time I am set up. Give it a whirl you won't regret it.

Call me lazy but no desire to build one. Thanks though. Just purchased a Personalizer Plus.

After cleaning the blade with acetone and taping the stencil on I do about 1.5-2 seconds twice then flip it over to mark for about the same amount of time. I've had good luck by starting with the setting on 3.
Ken.

For anyone else that reads this thread, this is well worth the effort, I built one more than a year ago and its still going strong. follow the tutorial precisely and you will have no problems. By the way, this etcher was designed by Bob Warner, and put into a tutorial by Chris Crawford, just for clarification.

you have to play with times and powers a bit depending on the steel (they all etch different) when in question burn it in a bit longer then you think ( i hate light etches and you can put the stencil back on and re work it and still lok right )

you will find that you will get a pace on the on off burn and keeping the steel cool (more to save the stencil then the steel )

i buy my etchant cause i dont want to play with something that might work. i just want it to work

so far as the power setting used you can hear the sound of the maker working (boiling as it burns) and you can also tell when you pad needs cleaned (if you dont clean after every set of markings )
