I WANT a tough fix blade in 5.5 to 6 inches blades, either a CRK Sable IV in A2steel or a Fehrman Last Chance in CPM 3V. Don't ask me what I'm gonna do with these knives. I just plain WANT a good fix blade in these price range and these blade length range. Which one you recommend for me? And of course I'm opened to any other suggestions. Please enlightened me, I'm a noob. Thx guys.

Are you limited to those two makers? CRK and Ferhman make good knives, I am partial to Busse and ScrapYark and Swamprat....just what i have used. Give them a look as well. Have you held either makers wares? I understand the "PLAIN WANT" but what do you intend to do with em? Will they sit? Get used occasionally lightly? Alot? What do you like about the CRK line? I like the Mountaineer myself. As far as Busse goes, the Badger attack sounds like it would be right up your alley and they should be getting some into the companystore here in the not too distant future for around 287?

Anyway give them a look and see if its a style you like. I love mine, as many on the forums do. I really like my CRK too though, for toughness I would give it to the Busse, the CRK is nice though.

Well, I don't own the Sable, but I have a larger Project 1...Chris Reeve makes a great blade, especially with the one-piece line. Some don't care for the handle and they do have a pretty steep hollow grind. However, I like a wider blade. I have several knives in this category and blade-length:

Busse Natural Outlaw
Fehrman Last Chance
Randall #15
Trident Knives (Crusader now) Oberland 02
Strider Mk 1 MOD 10
Mad Dog PATAK
Mission MPK-10 (A2 version)
Blackjack's Model #5 and the Grunt

I have a few others, but these are all in the same size-range and roughly 1/4". For general utility I really prefer the Fehrman or the MPK-10. The designs just lend themselves more versatility. The Busse NOe is a monster of a knife, but the balance is a little off for me. It does make a good chopper, but I don't care to use it for smaller work...don't get me wrong, it's a top shelf knife, I just like the way the Fehrman and MPK-10 fit in my hand and the better points on them. I do like Busse's chisel grind...some really don't like it, but I've been using Emerson folders for several years and just like that type of grind...more for duty work than outdoors.

Something about those Fehrman knives tells me that a first strike will be my first expensive fixed blade purchase. Busse makes great knives too, and I also really like the CRK one peice knives. The hollow handle is pretty cool considerinig it's all "one piece". Busse and Fehrman seem relitively similar, where as the one piece knives sort of stand out as something different. I also really like those Trident/crusader fordge knives. -I've never used or owned any of these, but I've held some of each brand and can say with confidence that you will have an awsome knife with whichever one you choose. -By the way, ROCK6, you seem to have really good taste in fixed blades.

barabbas74 the knives probably will get used lightly, but I never owned a high end fix blades before. That's why I'm not gonna limit on those CRK and Fehrman as long as the price is in my range. Thx.
