First, I would like to introduce myself. My name is John. I have been lurking for some time and I am usualy able to gather most of the answers i need by looking through the forums.
I am now looking for an edc flashlight and have narrowed my search down to The fenix tk10, and the fenix tk11 with an r2 upgrade. Both are around the same price on ebay +/- about $5. From what i can tell the tk10 offers a textured reflector and a pocket clip. The tk11 has a smooth reflector and is a little bit brighter (240 lumens vs the tk10's 225), with no pocket clip option. Which way should i go?

I guess that would depend if you wanted to use 18650's or not. They are pretty much the same light so your personal preference will be the deciding factor.... and choice of batteries.

1978, for EDC consider also one of the other Fenix or Quark lights in whatever battery configuration pleases you. The 2xCR123 Fenix or Quark lights will put out about as much light, but be a thinner, lighter light for EDC. Just a thought.

I carry a 1xCR123 Quark with momentary switch, feeding on a rechargeable battery, and am well pleased. I probably have 10 Fenix lights.

Send me your email address please.

In theory the smooth reflector should have more throw and the textured one less artifacts and more flood in its beam pattern. These lights may be a bit big for EDC though-try one of their single cr123 or even AA lights.I EDC a LD01 (single AAA).

Check out the PD series, similar specs to the TK in terms of output, though I think the TK UI is much better, Fenix UI has kept me away from owning one, but they are not bad lights by any stretch.

TK10 if you don't use re-chargeables. Also look for a used TK1. I have the TK10-11 and TK1. All very similiar and the TK1, although an older design, can be found for around 40 bucks.

There is a flashlight forum (CPF) that can help you and they also have a trade section.

I have no input on which light to purchase as I'm a single-cell EDC'er, but I would recommend checking out 4seven's website as he offers a lifetime warranty on the Fenix brand lights he sells, free shipping and good pricing.

I settled on the Fenix TK11 r2. I appreciate everybodys response, and i will certainly take all of these suggestions into account when I am ready to order my next light. I can see this is going to be the next hobby to consume my paycheck. Thanks again guys.

Congrats on the purchase!

You are right, flashlights can be just as consuming as knives. I bought one nice flashlight about a year ago, and now I have 13.:D
