Which fixed blade?

Hi,

I've been trying to find a fixed blade knife. I've got it down to a few options, including these two Buck Knives.

The Omni Hunter:

Or the Vanguard:

I have had the chance to handle these knives but I was just curious if anyone had any experience with either of these knives? Or if you have any other suggestions. It would probably be left in a BOB, not really for everyday use. The other parameter would be lower cost, which is why these two appeal to me.

Thanks.

I'm leaning more toward the Vanguard. I like it's look and the blade shape seems more useful.

The Vanguard is an attractive knife. :) It's a Buck, chances are it'll work out well.

It is available from Cabela's as an 'Alaskan Guide' 192 Vanguard, with the wood handle, an Al-Ti-N coated S30V blade, and a leather sheath ~$110 - $100 with rubber handle. The regular 192 is a 420HC bladed version of the above, while the 692 has the 420HC blade, rubber handle, and nylon sheath. It's the least expensive version - and probably the best for dedicated nasty weather use. I really like the Vanguard!

My favorite was found in Foley, AL at a knife store there - a CPM154 bladed 192! Some odd blade variations have occured. The 420HC is no slouch - and very straight forward to resharpen. They all share a good feeling and safe grip - with a finger guard - worthwhile in wet/cold conditions. The 4" blade is very hollow-ground - excellent for camp-style whittling - not the best at splitting - and poor at battoning, something I don't do anyway. Yeah, I like the Vanguard!

I own a vanguard, and it takes and holds a good edge, and feels fantastic in the hand. It's a great knife.
