Hi there,

This is my first post, so please be gentle.

;)

I'm looking for a double edged knife at least 7 inches long, probaby a spear point like the CS Tai Pan or maybe like the Randall #2, at a much lower price point. There is a high possibility the knife can get lost, so I don't want to be out too much $$$, if that happens. I'd still like something of quality similar to a Becker bk9 or maybe a ka-bar heavy bowie, if that's possible.

The knife will be used for boar hunting, so the blade can't be too delicate, and icepick type daggers are of no use, as I need a blade of decent width. It also needs a reasonable tang so my hand can't slip forward.

Thanks

Exactly what you need right here:

Designed for sticking, and used by the pros. (and cheap)

Contact Justin from Ranger knives. There is also Ranger knives forum on knifeforums.com which Justin visits, so you can ask over there.

Pretty wicked looking knife. What is it used for? I browsed a bit and see that they offer a full commercial line of kitchen and butcher knives, but can't figure the application of this. (i.e. there are cleavers, boners, paring, skinners, etc.)

it is for sticking the heart.

I stole these pics from Trumby on Rat Chat. . . The knife in the pic is the one I linked to. . .

Cold Steel OSS.

It may be a bit too delicate for that application, but if you can, take a look at it. A lot of bang for the buck.

I think the word you're looking for is "guard". A knife's tang is the length of steel that protrudes into the handle.

Cold steel peacekeepers are nice too. Great for the money. The larger one is 7+ I believe. Not sure if they are still made though, but I think they are. Pretty wide at the tip too.

The Peacekeeper might be a bit small, but if he can find one in Carbon V, it really is a nice knife.

I'd go for a CS trailmaster, it'll definitely kill a boar and will hold up very well. You can get them for about $120-$150
