I just got back from the AG Russell store in lowell arkansas, and after looking at some of the Dozier fixed blades I think that i want one. I would use it mostly for camping and fishing, and occasional hunting trips. They all seem quite similar in design for the most part, with subtle differences in the blades and different handle materials. What would you recommend? I probably wont be able to get one until around christmas time but at least i can start deciding which one i want.

Thanks alot

Dan

When I say that I will use it for fishing I mean trout fishing primarily, so all it will be used for is gutting. For fish that i want to fillet I will use a different knife, so I want this knife to have some some belly to it. I like the looks of the White River Skinner, but is the blade on that knife too thin for general purpose camping chores like cutting branches and such?(not chopping, just cutting small ones)

i don't have exact measurements on the blade's thickness, but from the few Dozier's i've handled, i'd think that any Dozier knife can be used for cutting small branches. i've seen my father use his Master Skinner on moose bone (and it not even show a hint of needing resharpening).

Edit:
he doesn't let me use his Dozier's, so i haven't put them thru much, but ppl here on Blade Forums have said they've used their White River Skinner for batonning/splitting wood.

How did you actually handle Doziers and not buy one :) ? As a fisherman myself, I plan to get a Dozier Wharncliffe Personal. I can't wait for the New York Custom Knife Show in November to purchase this knife. The wharncliffe blade is perfect for filleting fish like trout and for precision-cutting baits of all kinds into attractive pieces for a variety of fish, especially saltwater fish. I think Bob Dozier's knives are among the finest there are.

Go to www.dozierknies.com for full color pics of the entire line. You may even catch a blade that you want if you check their "inventory on hand" section. There is currently a 10 month + wait for your order. Go to their discussion forum for some good reviews from folks who have actually used their blades for hunting/ fishing/ camping, hide processing, etc.

www.agrussell.com do have Dozier and Arkansas made knives on hand. But click on their Cutting Edge section at the bottom. A few Doziers for sale there...

Don't overlook the K2 & K4. Pretty handy knives. However, understand something, it doesn't matter what your first Dozier is. You will buy more!

basically, i'm a poor college student. i've never paid more than $60 for a knife (tho my collection includes: CRKT M16-03, Spyderco Cricket, Camillus Cuda Jr, Spyderco Calypso Jr, Benchmade Nimravus 140, Camillus Arclite, Spyderco Dodo, Kabar/Dozier Thumb Notch Folder, Camillus Becker Necker, Himalayan Imports 12" Ang Khola, Himalayan Imports 15" British Army Service. so there are 5 or 6 knives in my collection that easily go for over $60). by the time i'm done school and i get a nice job, if my father still hasn't given in and given me one of his Dozier's, then i'll pay for one. until then, i'll have to make due with my Ka-Bar/Dozier folder. :(

but i will agree with you on one thing, they're some of the finest knives available in the world. they're a bargain even @ around $200.

I really like the blade shape of the KS4. Seems hard to beat for $200. The KS3 Pro Guide is a great one too for the same price.

I keep going back to my K1 for the tasks you mention. I called the Dozier shop and talked to Linda before ordering mine a couple of years ago. She was most helpful. However, it's hard to go wrong with any of the models already mentioned. You may be able to find something listed for sale on the forum if you're patient.

I'm really partial to that Classic.., one heck of a knife, but he'd be happy with any of them IMO.

I think I am going to wait until I have the money for the knife and then just drive back over to AG Russell and hold them all, then see which on fits my hand and feels the best. From what you guys have said most of them are quite similar as far as function is concerned anyway.

Dan, that is the best idea.
What feels 'right' for one person often doesn't do it for another.
My Personal Utility feels like it was made for me ;)
