Which folder style is best for a beginner?

I've been tossing around the idea of building a folder for myself, but am wondering whether I should do a lock-back, liner or frame lock. Is there any consensus on what is the simplest of the 3 for a beginner to start with?

Should I just do a friction folder and see how I feel about it first?

I would say a kit knife is in order here if you have never made a knife before.Get what ever your personal preference is for the lock. Then once you know how they work and the amount of time involed you can make one from scratch. Ray Rogers has a good tutorial on his website for a nice folder.

You can get a kit from knifekits.com.

I started with lock back folders and the first ones werw a hard way to go but i kept working and got some real good ones and a better understanding of how they work.
I would get a kit and study it very good on the lock and the open and closed position then get some good steel and see if you can make one just like it and you will learn alot from that and good luck. JRH
