Which folding knife for my better half?

Howdy. Like the title says I am looking for an inexpensive ( $50 - 100 ) folding knife for my wife. She has been carrying a Becker BK14. She said she wouldn't mind having a folder too. I have thought about the SAK, but think I am going with something else. She can't do camping and such due to health so it need not be the be all end all of survival. Just a good EDC for a small handed, petite woman. I do not even know if assisted opening knives are an option in this range, but I thought that might be a nice feature for her if she had to use it in a self defense situation. Even if it costs more. I just want her to have a good reliable knife that will be there when she needs it. Please enlighten me on some nice folders ( am more of a fixed blade guy :) ). Any help is appreciated.

My wife carries a BM 15030-2, a mini-Bone Collector Folder in walnut, and her original - a Kershaw rainbow Chive. The mini-BC was a must have - she bought me one for Christmas 2010 - fell in love with it - had to get her one when they were back in stock - it was nearly a $100 - may be too much. Super knife - not crazy about the skull logo...

50 and up? Okay, how about a hand made custom by Keith Ouye of Hawaii. I can guarantee it'll cost ya way "up" of 50. ;)

A Spyderco Delica would fit the bill. They're one handers, and come in a variety of handle color options, even purple.:)

Dragonfly seems to be a hit with the ladies. I like my G10 one very much. You say that it could be used for self-defense, I personally wouldnt feel comfortable stabbing with a small knife like the dragonfly. For walking around alone at night a delica is a decent choice. Both the dragonfly and delica come in different handle colors too. Im not really into assists so I cant help you there. Good luck!

edit: The dragonfly actually doesnt come in different colors like the delica does, there are a few variations of the knife though.

How about a ZT 0780, I do not think it is out yet but it has ZT durability and strength in a slimmer package.

For that price range you listed, there are quite a few Spyderco offerings ranging from the Delica to Paramilitary 2. The thing with Spyderco that you might like is that they don't really look all that tactical, something that you might appreciate for your wife. I'd also look into Mcusta knives and a few offerings from Kershaw like the RAM and JYD (Junkyard Dog), both of which are flippers which open pretty fast while non-assisted.

Mcusta stuff:

Spyderco stuff:

I would vote for the Spyderco Dragonfly- I bought one for my wife.

My daughter wanted a knife recently and I had visions of buying her something similar. We went to a gun show to look at knives and she picked out a black/black Benchmade mini-griptilian. She carries it in her purse mostly but sometimes clipped to her jeans pocket.

Kershaw has a lot of relatively small knives to choose from, that is another company to consider. The Chive and Leek are nice knives but they are assisted opening which you may or may not want.

Cold Steel Voyager comes to mind. Several sizes, blade types, and edge types.

My wife loves her pink handled spyderco native its a good size for her and she keeps it in the kitchen with her for opening mail etc.

Sometimes it's helpful to forget about what we like, and just get them what they will use. For instance, I got my wife a Benchmade Minigrip in D2, and she liked it alright, but she was constantly asking to borrow my SAK for the scissors, screwdriver, etc. So she now has a Benchmade and a SAK. She still carries the Benchmade with her, but the SAK is what she uses.

My Better Half Has A Meyerco Maxx-Q And Loves It Lol.

But I Would Go With:
Kershaw Leek - You Can Get It In Pink Or Rainbow Which I'm Sure She'd Love.
Kershaw Scallion Or Chive - Again Pink Or Rainbow.
Benchmade Mini-Grip - I Would Go With The 555 In Light Baby Blue Or Pink.
Spyderco UKPK - My Partner Loved My UKPK.
Spyderco Delica
Spyderco Dragonfly
Spyderco Manix 2 In Pink
Spyderco Anything In Pink Lol.

Or Maybe An Awesome SAK With Pink Or (Her Favorite Color) Scales.

You Could Get A Nice SAK For Like $30 And Get Custom G-10 Scales In Her Favorite Color Made For Pretty Cheap.

Or, If SAKSteve Is Still Hanging Out Around Here, He Would Make You A Custom One For Her For A Really Good Price. He Did My Custom And I Love It.

Get Her A Purple Delica 4 FFG And A Purple SAK.

For Example - Purple FFG Delica 4 And One Of These Purple SAK's: Classic, Minichamp, Floral, Day Packer, Rambler, Gardener, Etc. Or A Purple Wenger Of Sorts.
