Which for EDC? Navigator or Cricket?

Ok, now I'm in trouble. Looked for a small utility spydie for office, home, minor manual labor, etc. happened to purchase a navigator PE from one place and a SE Cricket lt from another. Now I can't decide which to make my EDC. :) Any advice on this pleasant dilema?

Carry both. :)

I concur!! I have several knives, including the Navigator and the Dragonfly II (and I am looking at the Co-Pilot), that I rotate around depending on my mood and what I may be doing that day. I even carry non-Spydercos on occassions:o ;).

As put by the other(s) : CARRY BOTH!
I carry my SE Cricket & SE Merlin as
EDC's & I don't give a "fig" who(m)
CARES!;) Damn GOOD choice(s) you made too! OBTW!

AET ;)

I have to go with the rest of the guys: carry both. The Navigator will probably be more useful for most day-to-day tasks, but the Cricket is unsurpassed for some tasks, like opening boxes.

I hate to be repetitive but....carry both. ;)

PE and SE....the best of both worlds. :D

WAY TO GO!!!! PUTTIN" IT "MILDLY"!!!
The "integrity" belong(s) to you!
"Ayoob" has Place of Honor with my
other "treasured" Spydies. My "foot
soldiier(s)" are the SE Cricket ( to
the grave!!!;)) & SE Merlin, my other "six shooter" holds the rank(s) "on the streets" of Ft. Laudy. The Ayoob, however, has it's place "Place of Honor" thanks to YOU! KBR! Now, to be "back on topic".

Allen....glad that you like it. ;) My CE Millie has already bitten me twice :( on the same finger within the same week, but it is definitely my favorite and goes with me everywhere, everyday. :D

Back to topic;

markd1,
If you can/will carry only one, I would prefer the PE Navigator. I like a PlainEdge blade, over an SE, because I believe that it is more versatile, IMHO. If you plan on cutting rope, or other fibrous materials, the Cricket SE will handle those tasks with ease.

However, I believe that because of the size of these small Spydies, EDC carry with both would be the best and most convenient choice.

Good Luck

Your opinion count(s) 100% IMB ; PE
is DEFINITELY more VERSATILE, my quip as to carrying the SE cricket
is to (hopefully) supply "the best of both worlds", although I've seen PE blade(s) that can out do a SE ANYDAY. Why then a SE? it's just the "evolution" of the knife & that which makes it up. I go for the SE
cricket as it's diminuative size, compactness, and "sheeple friendly"
appearance make it "palatable" for Thou. Oh, Hell's Teeth! I should just carry the new "Spyderhawk" whenst it becomes availible! Scare
the damn "sheeple" and to Hades!
SE be damned too!

AET;)

Thanx for the suggestions guys. the navigator sure is a nice looking knife. The blade seems very functional also. The clip seems very stiff and I struggle at little to open it though. very strong resistance. A least compare to the Cricket. Comes off the pocket easy and I can flip it open and closed with one hand quickly. I'll just practice a little more with the navigator. What's the right way to close a lockback with one hand? I press the back w/ my thumb and bring the blade around w/ my index finger and then move my other fingers out of the way just before it closes. not too safe. Is there a better way?

Lockbacks and Compression locks can be done the same way...

finger into kick area(unsharpened bit where the stamp and all goes), thumb the lock closed and flick your wrist. The kick hits your finger, and then you can flip it over and thumb the blade close(makes a comp lock leftie friendly).

comp locks you could also thumb lock closed and index the hole closed(I do this and it works).

As to liner locks(even with my millie), just get leverage, thumb lock, hold liner, and index the spine till the kick hits your thumb, then put thumb onto hole and close.

the thumb and flick is the safest way I've found for lockbacks.

Thanx for your help guys. thanx VampyreWolf! The little flick works fine. Good tip for us "one handed lock type" rookies
:)

Best bet is to trade them both for a BM 942 and then you wouldn't have to decide upon one over another!:D  :D

markd1> I've only had spydies for 3yrs... aug 99.

I've handled most of the knives I could get my hands on, been shopping and visiting in the same store for 6yrs... first name basis and discount.

The only lock I don't like is the AXIS lock... first handling I killed my little finger... right above the nail bed, was getting leverage a bit too high on trhe handle and the tip bit me(on a BM osborne). Got a 1/2" cut, angled...

Well, I carry a Merlin PE as my EDC knife. I also carry a small oldtimer also. I had a Cricket too but as my wife did not have a knife I gave her my Cricket so she would have a decent EDC knife of her own. She likes her cricket a lot.
