Okay, I know I am going new thred crazy but this one's fun, I think. I need to get a GEC, so for EDC purposes and heavy duty stuff which do I get.
GEC#42 lock back
GEC #73
and then the wild card Northfield# 23 pioneer
Appreciate your input and replies and thank you in advance.

Could you plese elaborate on what "heavy duty stuff" you have in mind?
Imho "heavy duty" most often calls for a fixed blade or another, more appropriate, tool...

I agree with Bernd - Heavy Duty stuff always associates a fixed blade for me. A traditional folding knife, slipjoint in special aren´t things I combinate with the term Heavy Duty.

But ok - I own a #73 and #23. Great knives, no question. The #42 should be in between, sizewise.

For EDC, I like the #73 more due to its smaller size and it´s more pocketfriendly than the huge #23.

I tend to the term: The smaller it is, the more time it is actually in the pocket.

After that: I´d recommend you the simple #73

For heavy duty (whatever that is?) gotta run with the lockback...If you know how to safely use a slippy,,#23 all the way.....................Fes

The 23L (linerlock) is a beast and ya need a big pocket (or a belt sheath) to tote it! That being said, I carry mine a lot. Love it!!!!!!

Thanks to Sitflyer, here's mine:

Thanks again Duane!

Agreed. When I go heavy duty with a traditional, it's my #23L Pioneer linerlock.

More in the line of an EDC, the #73 Scout jack or the #72 Cody Scout are just about right, with their secondary pen blades adding a lot of utility.

All good knives but be aware that the 23 is a big beast, real whopper! I find the 73 to be a first-rate knife, good size without being like a boulder in your pocket. I think it's the iconic GEC knife actually. Here's one of mine with a very good liner-lock, Tidioute in Bonestag. If you like locking Traditionals ( I certainly do) then also look at Queen Cutlery's Copperhead and Teardrop patterns in bone or Woods with D2 blade. Thanks, Will

For me, the 42 and 23 are a bit much for EDC, size-wise.

73 hits the sweet spot.

Gentlemen thankyou for your advice. For me heavy duty means cutting 1" Sisal/hemp rope or taking off the sucker branches on a stick:) I will not be battoning or cutting tyres lol. Thank you al for your advice. A #23 linerlock is now in the mail:) Thank you all.
