Which Gerber between the two is better?

Don't you love it when you ask a specific question and you get totally unhelpful answers? Anyway, I'd go with the Gator. My friend has one and he absolutely loves it. The handle is pretty unique and quite unlike anything I've felt before on a knife. "Gator-grip" or "soft-grip" I think is what Gerber calls it but either it way it feels pretty darn good in the hand. That's about all the advice I can give you as I don't have much experience with these knives but once again, my good buddy carries the Gator in a sheath on his belt every day and he swears by it.

That's the way it goes.

BTW: Sometimes what people ask for and what they really want to know aren't always the same. ;)

I have 4 Gators, including a Gator I which I've gutted and skinned several large wild boar with and rarely have to sharpen. I like the looks of the profile - I think it's more of an updated look. The Gator is a decent bare bones knife for the price, but I think the quality has gone down since the original Gators were made due to offshore production.

If you plan on walking miles and miles with it, take the Gator, because it is only 4 ounces. Walking miles with the 8 ounce Profile might get annoying (yea I know, I sound like Nut'nfancy :p).

However, if weight isn't an issue, take the Profile. Aside from looking "cooler", it is narrower towards the tip, which will make piercing things easier.

But like everyone else has said, for the same price (or only $5 or so more) you can have something much nicer like the Rat 1.

I had a gerber profile fixed blade i used for rough camping use pre- cheap aus8. It's just 440 steel but it did the trick for a budget camping knife. Gerber in its almost entirety is a walmart brand knife nowadays. Their prodigy/lmf knife is OK, but I have been sorely disappointed with the 7 or 8 gerbers i've had over the years. For the money you can do much better- rat-1, CRKT Lightfoot, the list goes on.
