I took apart my large seb and need some grease before I put it back together. The CRK grease, Militec etc isn't easy to find in Canada. Is there anything else I can get at home depot or a department store?

I use militec and there are some sellers on Feebay that ship to you up north.I just checked..

I just use a drop of 3-in-one oil now and then. Anything more, and it seems to attract lint and dirt.

If I were to use something else, it would be a dry graphite lube from the auto parts store, so that it wouldn't attract lint and dirt.

RemOil, if it's good enough for my firearm collection, it's fine for my folders.

I also use Sentry Solutions High Slip Grease, you can order it online.

Whatever they put on them at the factories where they are made. Once I clean them, I run them dry. Benchmade Blue Lube works on the few that I do lube.

I've been using a white lithium grease I picked up from the same company but I've been meaning to give this a try: External link

I use Sentry Solutions Tuf-Glide but I have used Rem Oil in the past and they both work well. I have also found that the Daisy gun oil I use for my .22 airgun works shockingly well. You could probably find it at your local Wal-Mart or sporting-goods store.

Recently got some Latama quick release oil due to endorsements from some knowledgeable knife folks. So far I'm impressed.

I prefer to keep my folders dry. Prevents accumulation of lint, dust, dirt, ect. Lubrication makes sense for high-friction machine parts, but with teflon or bronze phosferrous washers, I find that my folders open just fine dry. I don't worry about wear, even if I have to open my folders frequently, after all, teflon and bronze phosferrous are pretty slick materials. I also don't need my folders to open "lightening fast".

I would also consider the possibility that a folder with a blade that flys open, super slick and fast, might suffer damage as a result. Liner and frame locks can over-engage, causing premature wear. Stop pins can get hammered.

But don't get me wrong, I'm not saying it's wrong to lube. Your knife, your choice.

My EDC folders don't need lube, so I've quit using any. Blow 'em out with compressed air every so often, and wipe 'em off. If they get gunk on the blade, I polish with Flitz. If I'll be using them in a wet environment (camping in the Pacific NW), I coat the blades with Ballistol. That's it.

I don't mean to hijack this thread, but can someone explain to me what the difference between oil and grease is? Because i find grease to be more effective

I guess they sell wd40 over there!?!
If the knife will be used for food-preparation or hunting tasks, consider a multitool oil that is safe for knife and body. Victorinox Multi Tool Oil is good stuff.
