I want to take my emerson Journeyman down, clean it and relube. Which grease/lube should I use?

My point being that if 30 people respond, you may get 50 different lubes to try. Everything from nothing to WD-40 or 3-in-1 oil, to middle of the road stuff like CLP, or the high end spendy designer oils and greases. Some guys use mineral oil or synthetic motor oil. Half the fun is figuring it out what you like best. I'm happy with WD-40, because it contains mineral oil, but many guys will scoff at it. Pretty much anything will work. The variables are 1) cost, 2) how long its lasts, and 3) to some degree lubricity. But they all work just fine. I probably have a dozen different flavors that all work pretty much the same. Just my take on things.

Ha ha very true powernoodle. I personally use CLP to clean and lube all my knives.

I ended up using lithium grease and it is now smooth as a baby's butt. Unfortunately 2 of the clip screws broke off with only a slight turn to snug them up. Now they are broken off. How can I get those out without screwing up the threads in the scales?

This work pretty good.

Astro glide works wonders

I just used cheap lithium marine grease in my horseman. Worked wonders to smooth up the action.

I had a lot of success with white lith. grease, but I am now trying some advice I got on this very forum.
Clean it down completely dry and let the self lubricating washers do their job. Lots of breaking in, but I am starting to see results after a few weeks.
Cheers

Send it into Emerson for repair.
