im thinking about picking up a green beret but i cant make up my mind between the two lengths. i realize that the smaller might be easier to carry, but is 1.5" really that much a difference? i dont really have to worry about carry laws and such because i am the police. but has anyone seen any advantages/disadvantages between the two? also just out of curiosity, is one more "desireable" or "collectable?"

I would go for the 7" model. Bigger is sometimes better. Afterall it is only a 1.5" difference. I went with a 7" because I already have a 5.5" MKVI. They only models which might hold any collector value are the pieces personally signed by Chris Reeve himself as well as the NICA cocobolo wood handled version of the 5.5" GB.

Well, I've also chosen 7" version fo myself... just because I've taken MK.VI as my 5.5" blade before. Ken, so it looks like we use the same CRK fixed blade set :)

However, I'd always recommend 5.5" fixed blade as this is perfect size for all camp works. So if you don't have any 5-to-6" fixed blade than maybe 5.5" would be better choice for you, who knows? For chopping wood it's hard to beat an axe even with 10" knife anyway ;)

I think Either size will be good although I use both 5 and 7 inch knives at different times... About collectability... there is one other varient and there were only a few made from what I understand. I have one of them- it has the serrations reversed on it and I believe even the box is marked "collectable version"

sounds good, thanks. i was leaning towards the 7" as well since i have a few 5.5"s as well.

They are both nice... depends what you do most when you wear a blade... I drive a truck for a living so a 7 inch blade is murder for me getting in and out of the truck, as well as trying to draw it while in a seated position... Out on a hike, I prefer a longer blade. Two inches really don't make a difference outside of the bedroom...
