I didn't really want to post yet another poll, but I thought it would be an interesting add-on to the thread.

The question is simple: For those of you who have used both the 25 and the 21, which grind do you prefer, the 'Large Hollow Grind' as seen on the 25 or the tried and true 'Hollow Grind' of the 21, Mnandi, etc?

If you prefer one over the other, why? I'll give my answer after some of you have had your say.

Thanks for playing!

I like the 21 true hollow much better, the slight hollow of the 25 is really a flat grind IMO, the shoulder of the hollow grind help push material open and creates air pocket between the material and the primary bevel. Those that have both can try cutting a potato, watermelon, Apple and thick cardboard. The 25 gets wedged and the 21 can cut right through once the shoulder meets the material. I do however prefer the construction of the 25 better than the 21 but don't care for the additional finger cut out on the scale. Ideally it would be the 21 with same construction of the 25.

I've only had my 25 for a few days, but so far I think my large 21 Insingo cuts easier, but it should with the deeper hollow grind. I wasn't expecting the 25 to out slice the 21 because that is obvious in the edge geometry. But for a worker knife, I like a little bit more beef behind that edge on the 25. Either way, they are both amazing knives.

I am proud owner of both blade styles. This is what I find:

For me, the 21 full hollow grind is better all around for pocket knife use. In my experience, it cuts better in some situations due to it being thinner behind the edge. I don't notice any distinct advantage with the 25 large hollow ground blade, other than maybe lateral strength (I don't need), maybe looks, and maybe also requires a little less grinding (keeping costs in check ?). It's a given that you will get less sharpening life out of the 25 high hollow grind, as it will thicken up sooner. If using your knife to pry stuff open, I would assume the heavier, more wedge-shaped blade of the 25 would win, buts that's not really my use.

It's clear both are very nicely made, and bravo to CRK for giving us choices.

I could care less. I use the 25 and Umnumzaan for work and the 21's for everything else. I can't really tell a difference between the two concerning cutting performance. Both do a pretty good job at shaving the hair on my arm and getting rid of those rebellious threads on my clothes ;)

They are both sebenzas, it doesnt really matter to me. Both have an edge and can cut and they reliably lock into place. Thats all that I need in a folder.

I could NOT care less. I just look forward to the day when one of Mr Reeve's knives joins my collection.

Voted I could care less, but I'm sure someone will be by shortly to tell everyone they're wrong for their preference.
