Which Grip Style?

Decisions Decisions...

I can't decide which style grip to order on my new Model 1's. I am partial to the original 'straight' handle because that is the only style I have held but I was wondering what everyone thinks of some of the other styles available?

"Straight"
"Commando"
"Single Finger-Grip"
"Border Patrol"

The primary intended use of my knives will be for concealed carry/ self defense (yes I carry knives that big! :D) and light field use if that makes a difference. I will probably go with the old stand-by design but I just thought I'd check and see if anyone out there has any strong feelings one way or another on their knife handles. All opinions and experiences welcome!

I have a #1-7 with the "commando" shaped handle, it is comfortable to me, but then, so is the straight.

I'm having the same dilema. Luckily I have narrowed it down to Commando and Border Patrol. Then that damn "one of each" yelling gremlin keeps popping into my head.

A fighting knife should have a simple non forming shape. This is beacause of the various grips and changes that will occur. A straight style for fighting, a secure finger groove for chopping and slashing. All the best,
Sam:)

While I do agree with Sam somewhat, I have a Model 1 - 7", with a micarta single finger grip that I am partial to, and which is the type I would tend to recommend to you for both of your intended applications. Very comfortable and provides excellent purchase even when your hand is sweaty.

I agree with Kwaiken56. I have Randalls in
all grip configurations but the single finger grip is my favorite.

I have also had Randall's in all grip configurations and always come back solidly to the Border Patrol shape. It fits my hand perfectly, the contours of all other shapes either have high spots -- spots that don't conform to my hand, or have less hand to handle contact area, i.e. the standard shape. The single finger grip always felt funny around my index finger. The finger groove models (model #14, etc.) felt OK but not as good as the Border Patrol. My opinion only.
