Which Handle Material on Satin AK-47?

What is your preferred handle material on a Satin AK-47 and why?

I am leaning towards Black Paper Micarta at this point, due to it's lighter weight compared to G-10/Canvas Micarta. How much weight would the difference in materials really amount to anyways? My next consideration is Canvas Micarta, but not against G-10 either really.

I have read that the Custom Shop used to make aluminum handles when they were first introduced, have not seen any pics though. Anybody got pics, btw?

The aluminum handles were pretty, but they were slick. Personally I like the black canvas on satin AK-47s, I don't really have a reason. It's just a personal preference.

I agree, I'd like to see any pictures that you guys may have of AK47s with aluminum handles. Bring on the pics!

Found some in Eric Isaacson's post...

Aluminum AK was mentioned before. Wish I'd bought the other one I saw at the show when I got this one.

Here's the other one in case someone is on the search for it. I don't own the gray bladed one, don't remember who bought it, was at the Knob Creek show several years ago. I don't know a total number but it can't be many

You can't loose either way. If you've had your heart set on micarta, go for it!

Like many things Busse.... You cannot go wrong either way. Micarta will take you back ($) less. I've heard that it's grippier when wet. Haven't tested that out yet.

Pics please. Once you get your precious. That's exactly what AKs are, precious. Every single one that I've seen can be labeled beautiful.

I wouldn't go with the aluminum for the same reason as Lora.

Have you considered just Black G-10?

I don't have any pix to post yet, but I recently got a Satin AK with Black G-10 handles.
Grippier than paper, blacker than Canvas, I really like it.

I would go with black G10. Although black paper does look good too, but it's slick and not as tough as G10.

Blue and black g10. Make it flashy.

That does sound nice, it would go great with these…… :)

Orange and black jumps out pretty well too.

I don't think I've ever seen this combo on an AK before, sounds like another great option. I would imagine you have put enough of these together to know which handles really make them pop…… ;)

Thanks so much for the input and for making these happen for me, Garth. This is probably the most excited I have ever been about receiving a package of steel from Wauseon…… :D

I appreciate all the replies everyone, keep them coming….. :)

Does ANYBODY have some pics of a Satin AK-47 to share?

+1 for black canvas here, I love the way it looks when its seen some use + grime

Here are my 2 pride & joys...

Here is a rare review of the AK:

Hope the link works.

One just has to love an AK. I have no particular skill with a weapon that uses it's edge.... I'm a traditional foil/ Épée fencer. I bought the AK for its non traditional approach to this type of blade. Japanese, it isn't, yet it looks similar. The fact that it's INFI brings this unique weapon qualities that we all seek. It's a surprisingly nimble blade that you can bring camping and do things with that you wouldn't ( and shouldn't ) dare do with most other swords.

There are other tough swords out there..... None in INFI..... None with this class.

They are beautiful, unique, versatile pieces ..... Heck you think " end of the world" , I say " get me an AK 47":D...
All joking aside. Get one, any one, and never look back.

I have an orange handled one that stays on my 4wheeler for hunting season. I mounted the sheath next to the tank so the handle sticks up. Really helps when you lose the camoflauged 4wheeler in the woods. Kind of a marker to find the way back.
