I am getting ready to order my first Tramontina and was wondering which handle you all prefer. Are there any pros or cons to the wood or plastic.

I ordered one of both...at $6 why not. You'll most likely end up buying more than one anyway. They should be here today.

You can rasp or sand the wood handles to fit your hand. Other than that I don't think there is much of an advantage to either. You can always treat the wood with linseed or whatever. You can always make your own new handle out of micarta or pieces of cutting board or wrap them in paracord. So many options and at 6 bucks a pop modify them however you want. Also check out Picts thread on here about modifying and optimizing Trams if you havent already.

I prefer wood but the plastic handles are larger fit my hand better. I had to do a bit of work on my bolo handle to make it fit. My 18" and 22" Tramontinas have the plastic, and they fit well.

I don't think the wood on them would last as long as the plastic. don't get me wrong, I luv natural wood scales but they have to be good. you can work the plastic to fit your hand also (sand) and the maintenance would be way easier with plastic.
