Which Hatchet

Personally I'd go with the Vaughan based only on the fact you can choke up on it for smaller work. If that's something you won't ever be doing then the Estwing is maybe a stronger contender - it won't break or ever need to be rehandled, overstrike is a non-issue. The profile on those is very thin out of the box and if sharpened up good make for a very good chopper.

Definitely the Vaughan, wood feels better and you can reshape / slim it to fit your hand better.
Also you might want to see if your local Sears has the Craftsman branded version in stock, they generally cost $17.
That's what I payed for the one I bought my grandmother for kindling.
You might also be able to find the Grayvik branded version, a lot of Companies rebrand Vaughan tools.
Btw don't discount the Vaughan half hatchet available for $20 at any Walmart.
The actual hardened hammer poll is a good thing to have and adds versatility.
