I am considering to get a Hinderer spanto XM-18 flipper for my edc. Help me decide please there are two sizes on offer 3" (3.6 oz) & 3.5" (5.6oz) What would you suggest to go for for the first Hinderer? I have the ZT 560. It seems most folks prefer the 3.5 version. Ti finish and g10 color suggestions are welcome too.

I would have thought some one could weigh in on this. Any Hinderer owners out there?

Picture the same knife, one is a bit smaller than the other. And .5" isn't a great deal of difference. They are both awesome, some folks love them others not so much. The Hinderer and the ZT are both illegal in NYC, not sure what to tell you.

Thanks, they are both awesome but one is 2 oz heavier and provides only 0.5" more in blade length yet more people who do actually buy them go for the 3.5 version. Why?
As to legality, what can I say - NYC sucks; I do not plan to parade the knife, I carry a folder everyday (in my pocket not clipped to my pocket) so far I never had a problem with cops. Technically carrying it is illegal but owning is not.

I've only handled the ZT 561... it's VERY similar to the two you're asking about, but falls just a hair bigger than both. (3.75" blade)

it was designed based on the 3.5 XM, and is one HECK of an awesome knife.

For my own use, I don't really care if a knife weights 3.5oz or 7.5 ounces. I don't put much importance on weight, I don't goven my purchases by weight limits like some might. My opinion is thwt the 3.5 is more popular because of the extra cutting edge and they made a few more of the 3.5" than the 3" over the past year or 2 might mean there is nore of the larger stock to go around.

I own 2 XM18s and a 0560, they are all very cool. The Spanto grinds slice terribly, but they are tough as nails. I usually carry a FFG knife for slicing though. If you like larger knives, get the 0560. It's been lightened up a bit and cuts really well.

Here's a vote for the 3". I love my 3" because it's a pocket tank. It's small enough that I can whip it out anywhere in public and no one gets scared but it can take care of business when a sharp edge is needed. It's tough as nails and the slicer grind does exactly that. Slices and dices. LOVE the 3". I don't need a 3.5" - too big for EDC in my opinion. I have a VECP for beating up outdoors among knife friendly folken.

I have the zt 560 for and want a spanto grind (classic Hinderer)

IMO boils down to preference and your use

3.5" XM-18 flipper for me, but thats also because I carry another 3" folder.

I have a 3.5 and 4 XM - my vote for edc is 3.5, 3 is to small for my taste. Check local laws though, and remember that you can't go wrong with any xm!

I don't have huge hands, and the 3 is too small for me to grip comfortably. Absolutely too small with gloves on.
