which hooflex?

The "original flavor" has lanolin, the others I'm not sure. I got some Hooflex hand cream but it seemed to react with the brass.

The only size that I found was the 800g tub. I dubt I'll ever use it all. However, it might taste good on toast. :)

Dunno... it looks cheap enough so that if it's not what you like you can get something else. The tub is in ointment form so you can goop it on and leave it for a few days. The thing with the applicator looks like a liquid or goo. If it's really thin it may just run off.

When I got mine, the only stuff available was the ointment. Of course you can get both and share your new found wisdom with the other folks here. :) You might want to ask and make sure it has lanolin in it too.

That's what I use. I didn't even know there were different products. I have emailed the company to find out which product contains the most lanolin, and will post here if they respond. Their website is
Absorbine

Finally got a response from Absorbine.

"You asked "Which Hooflex product contains the highest percentage of Lanolin?"

The answer: Both the Original Hooflex ointment and the Liquid Hooflex contain an equivalent amount of Lanolin.

Thank you for your interest in our Hooflex products.

There you go, either the liquid or the ointment.

According to the tub it's 12.95% lanolin. I think the Corona ointment has a highter percentage.

Bag balm is some stuff in a petrolatum and lanolin base, so it's possibly higher than hooflex too. That stuff Mauirob uses is 100%. So if it's percentage you're looking for, there are higher numbers to be found.

I have this theory that the higher percentage of lanolin you have, the more it brings out the grain of the horn. But it's only a theory at this point.

Speaking of lanolin, has anyone tried "Mink Oil" (really sort of a grease} by Kiwi?
It contains mink oil, silicone and lanolin. I've used it a lot on leather and even coated blades with it for protection from rust, seems to work. I've started using it on the horn handles I have. It would be nice to only use one product for all three needs.

Lubriderm hand lotion (the blue kind not the red intensive care kind) has lanolin, Ive been using it for a the past year and a half, and things seem ok.

Are you using it on your khuks or are you telling us your hands are nice and soft?

er..um...er..Ive been...er..umm...using it on...er..um...do I really have to say:p
Seriously, Ive been using it on my ivory pieces, though when I remember, my khuks as well. Does help with the hands though;)

The hooflex came and I've had it on that cracked handle for about 3 or 4 days. The crack seems to have closed up some but I don't think it'll ever completely close. I guess I'll need to get some superglue and 1500 grit paper.

Just ordered 16 oz. of pure lanolin. Thought I'd mix it half & half with hooflex. Who knows, it might be better.
